If they can dye the river green today, why can't they dye it blue the other 364 days of the year?

Cool.  It'll make it easier to spot the Asian Carp in Lake Michigan.

Yeah, nothing like suddenly looking out your window and seeing that your local river looks like some energy group dumped radioactive waste into it...

I do not like green eggs and fish.
I do not like them in a dish*.
I do not like them served with lox.
I do not like them in a box.

*Well, maybe a Thai dish.

When I was in Geneva, Switzerland, the river Rhone was green all of the time. It was so full of algae from being over-fertilized that it was opaque aquamarine. And we think our rivers are polluted. You can see into the water of most rivers that I know, except those that have a lot of iron in them and are named something like Black River or Black Brook.

I thought they were just going to spray paint the ice this year

It is hard enough for the fish to see in the river without all that damned green dye blinding them for a while!

That's what's been happening to the Indian River Lagoon in Florida. It is choked to death with "muck" produced by the overgrowth of algae due to runoff of fertilizers. It is literally killing the environment here (most everything living in the lagoon is or will soon be dead).

Also I'm pretty sure that green dye is toxic.

I drove the wrong way thru a roundabout a couple of days ago.

Isn't the water in a river supposed to like, move?

But isn't a school bus doing that just a bit scarier.
I mean I'm gonna guess most of em have routes they follow, meaning he either does it all the time or maybe he was lost.

The river is already green from the algae in it!

I'd be worried about it killing things in the river, but then I remembered it's the Chicago river. :P

We spend so much time, money, and energy keeping companies, people and machines from dumping poison into our water wats and then give an exemption for the sake of a party.

I was about to say this. The water isn't flowing in any particular direction. Sick, stagnant water, as far as the eye can see.
