My statement to the Cowboys: "Son, you're on your own".

Considering their cap situation, the only way this really makes sense (having Orton and Weeden on the roster) is if they expect more injury problems for Romo.

It obviously didn't improve the Cowboys' passing game

He's only getting league minimum as the 3rd string QB.  The Browns still gotta eat that 4 million shiat burger they made when they drafted him

Weeden will be dumped on the scout team if he stays a Cowboy.  The thing to keep in mind is their other options were VY, JaFatAss, Tebow, McCoy or Campbell

Jerry seems like the type that's so insecure, he would refer to HIMSELF as "Little Jerry" and his penis as "Big Jerry"

Weeden has too many accrued games on the active roster to be eligible for the scout/practice squad anymore.

6 games is the line to accrue a season for the purposes of benefits or 9 if it's your only accrued season. Weeden started 12 games in 2012 and 8 in 2013. That's two seasons on the active 53 man roster.

2014-03-17 07:27:52 PM
Yeah the Browns were 4-12 last year but in Weeden's defense the games he started they were...oh...0-5...

Yup, he is a good owner but at the same time the worst GM in the league. As a fan, I'm just resigned to the fact that we won't do anything until he dies.

Jerry hitting the pipe way to much these days. Epic face palm on this one.

I would love to see him take Dallas to the super bowl just to watch all the heads explode. But that has as much of a chance as the Lions making it.

\maybe slightly better

Dear Mr. Jones,

When you sober up, remember that you NEVER sign players on St. Patrick's Day.

Enjoy your expensive hangover. And thanks for the laughs.

Sincerely,

pffft. he counts a grand total of 70k against the cap, and is eminently cuttable at any time.  with Orton making retirement noises so he can grow his neckbeard while he drinks more, it is pretty cheap.

And even if Orton doesn't retire, $4 million is a pretty penny for a backup QB.

As much as I hate to say it, the Browns are making some solid moves.

I still don't get why they wouldn't just draft a late round QB or even just tryout some undrafted ones after the fact and sign one of them. A young QB, even buried in the depth chart has a better chance of increasing in value as an asset and possible future trade chip than someone already on the wrong side of 30 with not a heck of a lot more actual experience.

Textbook genetic predisposition. Robert Irsay was a raging alcoholic. Jim has been addicted to pain pills for years.

I really hope he is able to conquer this because Mr. Irsay has gone out of his way to show how really sorry he is for what his father did and has been VERY generous in the community.

Word is that people in the know have been trying for some time to get Jim to understand his problem and go into rehab.

He has to surrender and WANT to do it..

I don't hate Kyle Orton, though. He's a serviceable backup.

If my memory recalls recollectively, the Browns put in Jason Campbell & he kind of did OK. That's right, the Browns were doing KIND OF OK until Weeden & his poison ginger were called upon once the J-Camp got hurt. VY is still crazy, McCoy is even more injury prone than Romo (no, losing the Rose Bowl doesn't still sting at all, COLT). Tebow is too circusy, even for Dallas. Frankly, I would've been just fine with Campbell.

Hey there. You new? I'm starting a float for the victory parade. You can come over if you want.

Campbell isn't that bad a QB. He's OK, a solid backup. Remember, it was a reach to take him in the first round, yes, but he was taken immediately after Aaron Rodgers.  There is talent there.

Sadly, not enough talent. He's been just good enough to get work on bad teams. That's why his career is where it is. If he could have gone to a program with a non-insane ownership, front office, and / or coaching staff and some actual talent, he might have been something.

Prolly never great. Prolly never really good. But certainly average to above average with a longish career. Hell, that sounds a lot like Hasselbeck, now that I think of it.

This is what I was hoping for. Someone to get into the system, learn the ropes, hold a clipboard, young, nubile, hot, maybe with like, longish curly dark hair like....

....whoa.... where was I.... um.... Yeah, so I was hoping for a late draft pick.

Also, I would like to thank this thread for being 1000% funnier & smarter than my fb feed. Good lord.

To re-iterate what others have said, Kyle Orton is more expensive and may be retiring and the Cowboys have a cap problem.  Besides, it's not like the guy is going to be the week one starter; he'll only go in if Romo gets injured and only if the Cowboys don't decide to grab some young gun in the middle of the draft as a backup.  He's not good enough to start but he's probably good enough to be third string.

Brilliant.
