Hopefully he was able to kill the mummy.

Well, it's not a double decker any more. Problem solved.

I guess that's better than being upper-deckered.

I was looking for the movie(s) where I've seen this happen - you know "so and so unavailable for comment", but the first entries for my search were news stories of similar events in the middle of January and near last Christmas. Wow.

How do you know he "forgot", subby? Maybe it was part of a planned renovation?

If there is video of it someone needs to put it to benny hill music.

That's how convertibles are made.

As his hands shook on the leads of his two dogs, Mr Green, 57, added: "I'm really shaken up. I could easily have been killed."

I'd say that Mr Green was not so serene on that day.

SmackLT: Well, halfway under a bridge

Nope, he got all the way under.  The bottom half of the bus did, anyway.

Sideways, driver. Or let some air out of the tyres. Or take another route.

2014-03-17 02:31:10 PM
This usually happens when there is no driver on top.

Makes it much easier to rummage through your stools, in search of proglottids. How the long Winter evenings simply fly by.

So this same bus driver, who drives this route every day (a route that includes this bridge) is typically assigned a single-deck bus. But today, they gave him a double decker, and told him to run his typical route.

The dispatcher is at as much fault here as the driver. How is there not some procedure in place at dispatch so a double isn't sent out on a route its not rated/certified for?

I love this piece from TFA:

Jane Smith, who lives right next door to the bridge said: "I heard the bang this morning, but I didn't look out. I hear something hitting the bridge all the time, and I just think ' there's another one.' It's not a rare occurrence at all."

And I thought our drivers were bad.....

That's the kind of thing that happens when you allow people to drive on the wrong side of the road with impunity.

I hope they don't try bringing double-decker buses to Durham, NC.

That's why most of the time I drive a triple decker, so when I switch to a double decker it feels like a single decker.

I smacked a hotel driveway overhang with one, but at a crawl so just a crease. Drove that beast around San Francisco a couple of times, going uphill was a chore (manual shift on the left side), and exciting going downhill (for me and the passengers).

Brits seem to have a difficult time estimating clearances. First the yacht on the Thames, and now a bus. I guess that is why there are no British NBA players. The tall ones keep smashing their heads on the door frames.

Driver is to blame as well. Every driver has a legal duty to know how tall his/her vehicle  is and not to drive it under bridges that are too low. End of story and he should get convicted of driving without due care and attention.
