Dammit.

Why do we (as Americans) pay to watch pro teams practice and scrimmage?

in the nfl it is rolled into season tickets so you are paying the same price for preseason week 4 as you are for week 17 of the regular season.

In addition it is easier to talk to the guys as they come on and off the field and for the most part the players are more amenable to say hey or sign an autograph.

I went to Arizona once for the cactus league and it turned out to be far more entertaining than I anticipated.

On the other hand degenerate gamblers/fantasy guys show up because they need to know what the rooks/minor leaguers which will be called up that season look like against pro talent.

So mostly gambling.

Spring Training: meaningful if a team you don't like loses

Not bad for a team that just got in trouble for putting out a minor-league lineup.

I usually don't pay attention to baseball...but is it just this year that they started calling the Florida Marlins the Miami Marlins?

/BTTF2 in play...just have to change the mascot...

The part about meeting the players and stuff was definitely true at Dodgertown in vero beach, fl. Most of the players were out walking around taking pics and giving autographs to kids.

Sadly dodgertown (at least the spring training part of it) is no more since they moved out to arizona.

That was last year when they opened the new stadium that no one goes too. I hate the new logo personally.

If their offense can score a run or two, and the defense plays decently behind them, the Marlins actually have a couple of pitchers that could possibly do this in the regular season.

Last year but still in the nick of time nonetheless. Only issue now is them being in the same league. But frankly, if the cubs somehow beat miami to GO to the World Series I think the world will call that damn close enough. /now if the marlins play the white sox in the World Series, I dunno how to call that one. As long as the headlong reads Chicago beats Miami I guess.

i used to not worry about spring training until I read an article that said the correlation between spring training performance and regular season performance is close to 1.  Meaning, if a team or player is killing it in spring, they/he will kill it in the regular season, too.

It's science, biatch.

They have to win next year, so this is a preview.

Also, spring training is completely meaningless. Like test grades or parking tickets

Hey, the Trenton Thunder won the league championship last summer, so that's quite a feat for the Marlins!

I don't know that there's much science to demonstrate a relationship between one spring game and the 162-game regular season.

I'm guessing the comment was way too far above your head for you to even see it, much less feel the "whoosh" as it flew by.

If you were unable to tell that my comment was not meant to be taken literally, perhaps you are not the one who should be determining whether somebody else is an idiot or not. Glass houses and stones and whatnot.

Be happy. They could be like the Tribe most years, and turn into the Generals in August, thereby stringing you along and dealing the cruelest of blows.
