having a top job makes them more likely to cheat because of the stress attached to their position and the lack of quality time they can spend with their family.

That makes no sense. If they don't have quality time for the family then they don't have quality time for screwing around, unless it's of the quickie-in-the-office variety. Who the hell takes out their frustrations with bad sex at home by having bad sex at work? Doesn't seem like much of a risk/reward payoff there.

It is the power but not in the sense that their job is stressful or demanding, but in the sense that why bother having power if you don't exercise it on office ladies?

2014-03-17 10:09:54 AM
TFA calls out women as handling stress better?

Having seen women burst into tears over the stress of "driving in rush hour traffic" I'm going to call that a load of bullshiat.

The office ladies are what got Bubba in trouble. What's the point of being the nation's alpha male if you can't do better than Chatty Cathy from the intern pool giving you one off the wrist?

2014-03-17 10:11:06 AM
Maybe the "being powerful" is an ego boost and screwing around just feeds their ego more.

It depends on how you look at it. To some people crying could be a method for handling stress.  I mean it's better than committing manslaughter by hitting pedestrians whilst driving on the sidewalk which some people have done.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

Most women find men in power attractive, and most men can't resist pussy that throws itself at them. It's one of life's inevitabilities.

What I take away is that men and women with little moral grounding in the first place are the ones able to rise to powerful positions.
This is not just about the whore in question, it takes enablers to see real success.

But, that is just anecdotal over a 50 year period of study.

Quality time with family = going to the zoo, family vacations, birthday parties, recitals, soccer games, etc.
Quality time for screwing around = screwing someone

I think that one of those two options takes up considerably more time than the other.

Still better than cheating on your significant other.

2014-03-17 10:23:33 AM
How about this: If you're the sort of person who lacks the conscience necessary to keep you from cheating on your spouse, you're also more likely to have employed questionable moral tactics that would put you in a position of power within an organization. Let's not blame this solely on the job and its "stresses". I think we all know the score.

2014-03-17 10:25:37 AM
Jealous, subby?

Alpha males cheat because they can. The same sociopathic tendencies that help you claw your way up in office politics make you more likely to cheat, and make you more attractive to women who want to bang cheaters. We beta males don't have the same opportunities.

A lot, if not most, cheating happens while traveling for business. They don't call them "road rules" for nothing.

Powerful people often use the the swank of their job to get laid. It's not surprising to me that they would also try to use their jobs to explain away or rationalize the behavior. Boohoo.

FTFA: According to research by dating site Victoria Milan, which questioned 2,500 people, more than eight in ten (81%) male respondents said that they think having a top job makes them more likely to cheat because of the stress attached to their position and the lack of quality time they can spend with their family.

Does anyone see where they actually ask people in high ranking positions?  I don't.  It looks more like "we established that the stereotype is that having a top job makes them more likely to cheat because of stress."

I would assume the cheating is true, but I would question the motivation.

Men who hold top positions are frequently at the office long hours and on business trips frequently.  It's likely that they would become a little detached from their significant other.  They would also reach out to someone who can relate to them on a work level since that's a significant part of their lives and that person would develop empathy for their stresses and be more relatable to them conversationally.

There are also those who would have an office affair simply because it's a bit taboo and exciting.

And those who would enjoy holding sexual power over a person in addition to financial power and daily task power.  You know... people attracted to positions power might just have this kind of turn on.

Also, men in top positions like to compete and win.  There is a reason men who get a lot of women are called "players" and that having sex is referred to as "scoring".  Plenty of people view sex as a game.

More like obvious than fail. Go out dressed in a $3000 suit and see what kind of action you get. Jut head to the nearest piano bar, pretend to be working on your tablet, and order a fine single malt. Then just smile at the pretty ladies occasionally.

No kidding. The female response to stress involves crying, ice cream, and shoe shopping.

I have a strong enough sex drive to understand the allure of cheating.

I own a pretty successful company. Make a nice living and am pretty good about being discrete.

Frankly, I would never hurt my wife for something as trivial as sex. I also think the inability to keep promises in terms of fidelity is a sign of weakness and lack of character.

The best way to honor your promises to your spouse is to keep yourself out of positions where you would be tempted.  That is not hard to do.  It also helps to be a little bit frumpy.

It's all the skulduggery surrounding the screwing that's time consuming.

Even if (for argument's sake) the only strange-chasing consideration for a guy was "don't get caught", you have to have

1) the time
2) the place
3) the means to conceal the arranging of the time and place
4) the energy
5) the unfailing discretion
6) the mutual desire that makes all the sneaking around worth it, at least on a base physical level
7) the mutual discipline to end the sneaking around with zero drama

Looks like a pretty shiatty ratio of work to payoff to me.

I think we can all agree that there's a lot of irrational decision-making here, and post-event rationalization.

Psychology!

That's pretty much my take on it.

Just having one woman is almost too much work.  I don't know how I'd manage multiple ones.  Really not worth the effort.

So girls?  Love your lazy, monogamous guys.

Having seen a fair share of business-hotel bars in my time, I have yet to see any evidence of a real-life "Up in the Air" scenario, let alone any business travelers who look like Vera Farmiga or George Clooney..

Maybe I just traveled to the wrong cities.

Pretty sure that they (the women) prefer it that way.
.
They get attention, wined and dined, some happy time in the sack (or on the desk, whatever), and the bonus of having something to blackmail the guy with later should they choose.

That is to say, they have total control of the relationship.  Stupid men.  Stupid, stupid men.

The trick is to find someone on a lower level in a different column.  That way, you aren't influencing them directly and it kills a huge swath of S.H. fodder immediately.  You don't have the power to DIRECTLY promote, fire, threaten, etc.  But you are still a powerful individual with control and possible influence over their superior, hence the attraction is there.
