DORMAMU: clkeagle: ciberido: I haven't even watched the first episode yet.  Recorded it but been too busy to watch.  Was it good?

It's great for what it's meant to be - something to get kids excited about natural science and discovery. Neil is entertaining, and it looks like he's gong to be touching on some pretty fresh theories.

Nothing mind-blowing if you're a relatively educated adult and keep up on astronomy news, and those who watched the original when they were kids seem to be underwhelmed (probably nostalgia defeating objectivity).

Well they did start with the kid gloves.

today's generation to be inspired is not the same as the original cosmos. They are ambitious, but in a different way/goal in mind.

i think the gentle coaxing into bigger is not a bad way to go, but yes, i am a bit underwhelmed.

I'm exited because I was too young when the original came out. And I'm a science and NASA-loving adult now that the new one is out. I've heard that TF used to have drinking parties watching the original Cosmos. It'd be great to do that with a weekly green thread for the new one.

I assume that the second half of the episode will be providing equal time to the Creationist (specifically, young-Earth Christian creationism) point of view.

If the entire episode is pre-empted on your station, finish your bottle of bourbon and dial 911 for alcohol poisoning?

I'm doing my best, but my husband has this thing with keeping me away from fire, chemicals, and anything else that could possibly be fu-I mean dangerous on a large scale. Jerk...

Though... come to think of it, I might be able to convince him if it's to get rid of spiders. It's my job to kill the ones that get into our apartment, anyway.

When the first Cosmos came out. They had a text book..and schools and colleges would offer it as an option.

It's sad that such a thing in a public school today would not even be considered.
We're going backwards...can't even send a man into space without hitchhiking with the Russians.

Thanks...Republicans; you made a great stupid work force for cheap labor.

I remember watching old episodes on KERA with my dad when I was a kid. I devoured the book version of the series that my dad bought. It just sucks that I was better at English and literature than I ever was at science and math. :) I'd be getting paid way more if it was flipped!

I'm going to put "living universe" on my resume.

Does that go under skills or hobbies?
