Jesus, the author could not have had Koch koch shoved any further down his throat... There was a sense of worship there.

That said, protesting it is ridiculous. $100m for a hospital wing is a very generous gift.

2014-03-16 03:31:35 PM
I wonder what that hospital charges for butthurt, because the author has an acute case that should be seen to immediately.

If you systematically steal billions each year with unethical business practices, which is the charge generally leveled at the Kotch brothers, giving a tiny fraction to charity doesn't make you a good person. It's not rightly your money to give in the first place.

The Kochs do some good things.  That said, even their good deeds often have strings attached.

yeah now the hospital will be against Obamacare

Anyone have a link from a reputable news source? Google turns up nothing but the usual suspects (Daily Caller, The Blaze, Fox, Rich Lowry, etc). I'm not saying this is completely overblown or made up, but...

It's like there's a PR benefit to having your name attached to popular public facilities.
I wonder how many plaques they'll put up praising Mr. Koch, who cares for us all very deeply.

Stupid article. You want to make anti-Kochers heads explode, write about the Florida special election, where he didn't donate a dime.

2014-03-16 06:12:01 PM
This morning, I read a HardBlush comic.

There was less fellatio in that then in the article I have just read.

That's wonderful. The fact a hospital would need a 100 million dollar donation is the problem with our system.

And let's not forget, at least Hitler made the trains run on time, too.

Al Capone ran soup kitchens for the poor. Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy both volunteered for a number of charities. Upstanding people, all.

I preferred it when my robber barons were heartless bastards until their death beds, then they created massive universities, public libraries, and national parks.

2014-03-16 06:29:56 PM
If Koch was donating $100 million to a hospital, I'd hire private security to go in and make sure that place won't be clubbing poor patients to death in their beds.

Buying goodwill and enhancing the brand in the face of growing criticism.

This doesn't change my opinion of either Koch brother one iota.

I'll reserve judgement on the protesters till I get something from a more legitimate source.

Al Capone also donated money the the widows and orphan funds.

If you believe that medicine should be a completely private enterprise, why distort the free market with donations?

It's funny how they didn't donate a single dime but the charity they fund, Americans for Prosperity, spent a couple million dollars on anti-Obamacare ads while the republican candidate very specifically ran on an anti-Obamacare platform.

We get it dude, there's no correlation, no association, the similarities are purely coincidental....

2014-03-16 06:46:54 PM
I believe it's also a $100 million dollar tax deduction.

2014-03-16 06:49:07 PM
Meh... this is just the super rich's version of buying their legacy.  In 100 years, there will still be a Koch named wing of this hospital.  But no one will know or care about all the very real and tangible things the Kochs did in the now to deny people access to the medical system.

2014-03-16 06:52:38 PM
Good: Making enough money to be able to give $100 million dollars without it affecting your bank account that much
Bad: Having to pay a $10 dollar an hour minimum wage.

2014-03-16 06:53:07 PM
Saw "Loopy Liberals" in the URL, downvoted and did not click.

2014-03-16 06:56:17 PM
I dunno... I'm a liberal and I think a $100M gift to a hospital is great.  It still doesn't even come close to the damage that the Kochs have done though.  I think they should be giving back much, much more to the corrupt nation that has allowed them to be the puppetmasters behind a political dead end movement.

2014-03-16 06:58:56 PM
"Was the hospital secretly to be used as a gay re-education camp that would seek to use a combination of systematic exposure to Sylvester Stallone movies, shock therapy and prayer to destroy homosexual impulses in its patients?"

Yeah, like that's gonna work.

Three, actually.  Two donate a lot of money to political causes (and one of those donates money to PBS as well).  The third brother, William, doesn't donate to anyone, but has been making news recently, as he's suing several auction houses over counterfeit bottles of wine he bought through them.

2014-03-16 07:07:08 PM
The new wing was gratefully to be named after Koch, who along with his brother Charles stands as one of today's great philanthropists.

They're not going to fark you, dude.

The easiest way to improve a negative public image is to give money to charity.

Think of it this way: the Koch's gave money to a hospital; will the health care system they lobby for -- where you can can dumped for having a preexisting condition -- help improve the lives of people in need of medical care?

Since a Koch will not even call their mom unless there is some sort of return involved, there are good reasons to be concerned.

It simply seems impossible that they will give $100M to anything without an underlying reason.

After a bunch of searching I finally found this.

http://amsterdamnews.com/news/2014/mar/13/workers-honor-internationa l- womens-day-call-out-ko/

Doesn't sound like they were protesting the donation, they were simply protesting the Kosh brothers by protesting infront of the Kosh building.  I'd be willing to bet the donation and renaming happened a while back.

Read somewhere else that the local Union has been protesting a bunch of  NY hospitals recently because they are looking to cut back their ER to 10PM-10AM service

In 2008, the Koch brothers were tied for the 37th richest people in the world, with a net worth of about $17 billion each. Sheldon Adelson was the 12th richest, with a net worth of $26 billion.

Today, they are tied for the 6th richest people in the world, with a net worth of about $40 billion each. Sheldon Adelson is right after them, with a net worth of about $38 billion.

"He's the most radical president we've ever had as a nation... and has done more damage to the free enterprise system and long-term prosperity than any president we've ever had." -David Koch on Obama

"Obama's a hardcore socialist, and he's marvelous at pretending to be something other than that, but that is what I believe he truly is, a hardcore socialist. He's scary to me." -David Koch

Charles Koch, whose wealth Forbes magazine calculates at about $21.5 billion, argues in his letter that "prosperity is under attack by the current administration and many of our elected officials." He repeatedly warns about the "internal assault" and "unrelenting attacks" on freedom and prosperity. A brochure with the invitation underscores that to the Koch network, "freedom" means freedom from taxes and government regulation. Mr. Koch warns of policies that "threaten to erode our economic freedom and transfer vast sums of money to the state."

"What scares me is the continuation of the socialist-style economy we've been experiencing for almost four years. That scares me because the redistribution of wealth is the path to more socialism, and to more of the government controlling people's lives. What scares me is the lack of accountability that people would prefer to experience, just let the government take care of everything. U.S. domestic politics is very important to me because I see that the things that made this country great are now being relegated into duplicating that which is making other countries less great. ... I'm afraid of the trend where more and more people have the tendency to want to be given instead of wanting to give. People are less willing to share. There are fewer philanthropists being grown and there are greater expectations of the government. I believe that people will come to their senses and not extend the current Administration's quest to socialize this country. It won't be a socialist democracy because it won't be a democracy." -Sheldon Adelson on Obama

Seriously, shut the fark up, all three of you. If Obama was the hardcore socialist you imagine him to be, you'd all be put against the wall and your family's assets would be seized by the state.

Instead, you've added tens of billions to your wealth under Obama and climbed the billionaire ladder. So what's your complaint? Your wealth hasn't increased  fast enough?

Shut the fark up. I don't begrudge you for your success, but fark you for trying to pull the rope ladder up behind you.

It usually has to do with some authority early in life calling them that and everyone just following that. Like that football player with the last name Fah-vray. You just know that some taskmaster coach back in highschool who don't got time for fancy falutin' pronunciashun called him Farv cuz it was easier, and everyone called him that from then on because no one bothered to correct the coach. And the name stuck.
