Cool.  Should work out a little better than it has with Mexico since there's not an actual shared border.  More room to maneuver, as it were.

It's been pretty inevitable since we reached the point where the only thing we had left to argue over was whether cheese produced in the US could legitimately be called Feta.

ftfa: Obama and EU leaders will also promise to guarantee a secure Internet governed by many parties, not just the United States, according to the draft summit statement.

[okaywiththis]

Not quite sure how that one happened.

ftfa: Countries from Germany to Brazil are seeking to shield their Internet traffic from U.S. surveillance following revelations that the U.S. National Security Agency spied on U.S. allies including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Oh, right.

The free trade thingy I saw coming a while ago and sort of saw as inevitable. Might be good.

It's the EU and US going "Well, our economies are already pretty much tied into each other, and I doubt we'll be going to war with each other any time soon, so let's make trading between us a bit easier."

I dunno, but his next smug little potshot at the current Presidency is long overdue. Maybe we'll find out.

The difference between this and NAFTA is that there's much less economic incentive to move American jobs to the EU.

I would say the biggest risk would be that it could trigger a "race to the bottom" among EU member states regarding labor standards.  I don't see much downside here for the US.

As a bonus, I'm sure Putin doesn't like this.  I would guess that it's possibly a precursor to an increase in natural gas exports to Europe in order to squeeze Gazprom.

Here in NY state, it's pretty common for people to get a bit too lit up on ice wine, then slip on a Cortland apple or puddle of maple syrup and end up tumbling down a nearby waterfall.  If it weren't for all the local cheese lying around to break our fall, we might see a lot of serious injuries.

/Kidding, of course:  you're more likely to get lit up on Juicy Juice than you are to get drunk on ice wine.

We can live with our current top 6, and maybe dress Engo as a 7th in the playoffs as a tweener.

Our forward depth is frighteningly bad, though.

But they're going to keep on marketing Stella Artois as some kind of highbrow elixer instead of the supermarket/trinkhalle swill that it was 30 years ago in Germany.
