And her coach admits they hung her out to dry for 10 minutes at a time.  Big surprise.

I heard that Paul Kariya was once suspended for crashing the Zamboni.

Rheaume got a pre-season start, did she not? This one looks like it was for points.

Paul Kariya never existed.  That's actually a song by 1980's rock group Mr. Mister.

My understanding is that female goalies are always inferior to their male counterparts because they have more holes

Could be charitable and read the headline as:

Female goalie makes her first ever start for men's professional hockey team. Plays like a girl

rather than

First female goalie start in men's professional hockey.

Subby probably didn't understand that, after her pre-season game in the bigs, she played for their affiliate, the Atlanta Knights, a professional hockey team.

fatalvenom: How many goals went five-hole?

There was a handful of jokes going around when Manon started playing.

It's no longer a crease, it's a goalies personal space

It's no longer a period, it's an allotted time of play

They are no longer pads, they are net minders protective equipment

2014-03-16 04:07:06 PM
in 94-96ish i was a stickboy for the road teams that came into the Aud to play our Buffalo Stampede.  Manon played for the NJ Rockin Rollers at the time, and it was a pain in the ass setting up separate facilities for her.  she only suited up for the 1st period, but she did sell tickets.

during the 2nd intermission i was running mad (fresh towels, full bottles, tape - repeat), and manon came up to me while i was mixing gatorade.  she smiled at me, my 15-year-old-virgin-self frozen and thinking this was to be the beginning of the greatest night of my life, and she asked, 'do you know where i can get some strawberry frozen yogurt?'  buffalo in 95ish was a ghosttown, but i couldnt let manon down so i yelled, 'ILL FIND OUT FOR YOU!,' and ran to the stampede lockerroom.

nobody knew where to get strawberry frozen yogurt, and her teammates were yelling at me the entire 3rd period because the gatorade was warm.

the end.

I think it's more the inability to cover the 5-hole with their penis.

RL_Fixation: Rheaume got a pre-season start, did she not?

Yes Indeed.

Mi-5: Exactly. What ever happened to her?

I understand she played hockey for quite a long time, well into the 2000s, though I don't know in what leagues.  I think she did some more business-side stuff too, specifically geared towards women hockey players.  Unsure what she's up to these days.

I met Manon when she played for the NJ R&Rs. I was a season ticket holder and she did a meet/greet. She was very nice and better looking in person :-)

2014-03-16 08:44:00 PM
She did just fine for semi pro goaltender of any gender. I hope she gets more legit starts and isn't used just as a curiosity. She has played in men's leagues for most of her career, including University level.

How can you forget 90201?  That time Brandon and Kelly were on the beach at sunset?  Aweee.... my favorite episode.   (And where were Dylan's parents and how come he didn't throw raging parties all the time??)

That's a good one. I was a stick schlep for the West Palm Beach Blaze when Bill Nyrop still owned the team. I did the same thing.

While we didn't have any female goalies come through the SHL, I still fondly remember this chick named Caroline who would allow me to come in early and stay late at our local rink because she thought I had a "great ass".

She was hot, and I got a good amount of free ice-time because of her.

Yes, the goaltender is EXACTLY like the kicker.  I mean, the kicker plays the entire game and is directly responsible for not letting the other team score.

Sounds like an apt analogy to me :p

Am I missing something... I cannot find anything that say Rheaume  (or Whitten) ever "started" a game, which is what is being said here.

Certainly they've played in games at various levels of the minors (and in Rheaume's case, preseason NHL) , but, unless someone wants to show me an article or something that I missed, I don't believe either have started a game in the minors.
