I am just glad he didn't steal Anne Frank's wheelchair.

Well, she wasn't as good at hiding as the Nazis were at seeking.

He could have fled but wisely noted the dangers of flying a plane over the Pacific ocean.

Uh, subby I think you mean Hellen Keller.  Anne Frank was the first lady to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

I loved her in The Graduate.

You're supposed to imply it, not say it.

I guess the odds were never in her favor...

LOL, seriously?  Japan counts as pretty much the most xenophobic, openly-racist country (outside those still stuck in the religious dark-ages, of course) in the modern world.  It surprises me more to hear that Japanese libraries even bother having copies on their shelves in the first place.

No, that was Eleanor Roosevelt.

Anne Frank was the lead singer of Blondie.

Shameful to disgrace the memory of someone who was so unjustly persecuted and nevertheless still managed to discover radium.

Many Japanese junior high schools use sections of Anne Frank's Diary in English class.  The students have to translate, recite, write short essays and occasionally some will do speeches about it's content.

A couple years ago I was allowed to segregate my students using yellow star pins.  I even made up family register papers works and put them through a Sofie's Choice type skit.  I wish I could say that I shifted their paradigms and inspired them to be better people but most of them just thought it was a goof.

Maybe this guy has a lot of pent up anger from having to recite passages over and over right after PE class.

Nope. That was Janet Reno. Eleanor Roosevelt was the first female astronaut.

I'm disgusted that after suffering in that house in Ohio for so many years her diary is being vandalised by a Nazi sympathizer.

Who cares? The libraries will simply buy new ones with his money. It isn't as if the book is a one of a kind which can never be replaced.

Very strange; why *English* of all things?  Isn't there anything actually written in English that could achieve this purpose?

Topics I've had to teach in English class:

Anne Frank
Mother Teresa
The Picture Of The African Kid and The Vulture
Cambodian children getting limbs blown off by Khmer Rouge mines.
Nagasaki and Hiroshima Cancer Children.

Why would they even bother sending someone deaf and blind into space. They could just hang her from a string and tell her she was there.

2014-03-15 12:09:30 PM
I heard it was the noise from her paper dimpler that alerted the Nazi's in the first place.

Ghastly,

That's easy... NASA wanted to test their braille camera technology...  But seeing as she didn't technically make it to space, I think your question might be moop.

That's what I was wondering.  I presume it was originally written in Dutch.

What? Why?

That is the weirdest thing I ever heard of. There are ways to be virulently anti Semitic, but this is a shockingly subtle one.

The English textbooks in Japan pretty much consist of 90% political indoctrination of some sort or another. I can't even imagine what the other subjects cover, but let me just say: "Moral Education" is a class required for all students of several grades. The government dictates every bit of what the subject covers, and the teachers aren't allowed to deviate from the provided lesson plan.

I've never heard of the Diary being taught, but TONS of "pity us poor, innocent Japanese for WWII!", global-warming, and religious topics are covered in English classes where I lived.

And yeah, I wasn't aware that Ms.Frank wrote in such fluent English, either. I guess we learn something every day.   :-P

They must take advertising mascots seriously over there. The Japanese do realize that she isn't a real person and they just invented her to sell cake mixes and cookbooks, right?

They should plant a big Linden tree in his honour--on his grave.

upload.wikimedia.org  What a big linden tree might look like

How can you be anti-Semitic in a country with no Jews? It's like admitting out-right that you haven't got a clue and don't know what the Hell you are talking about. Just meet some Jews and learn to hate them properly. Try some Jewish cooking, have a schmeer of cream cheese with lox on a bagel. Learn some rude words in Yiddish and observe neurotics and hypochondriacs in their natural habitat, the New York or Montreal deli.

Give Judaism a chance and then hate Judy Tenuda for having her own religion.

2014-03-15 05:36:10 PM
Of course, Anne Frank wrote fluent English. One she was in Europe, where students learn to speak several languages and almost invariably one of them is perfect flawless English; two, she was a Jew and naturally would learn the language of a major country of safe haven even if it wasn't offered in formal education, and three, she was practicing for getting the Hell of there alive as soon as possible.

Sadly, the last part proved the hardest.

Oh, it's you again.

Just as I predicted in the first thread about this happening; this was the work of one person with a mental illness.

Even if the Japanese were the most openly racist country in the free world (they're not) let me repeat - Japanese racists don't give a fark about Jews.  The most xenophobic Japanese person would not spend 1 second thinking about Jews.  Jews are totally inconsequential in Asia.  Japanese xenophobes hate other Asians.

Even when they were teamed up with Hitler the Japanese didn't give a damn about Jews (while during the same period, Americans hated Jews and openly discriminated against them).  Jews are an American obsession.  Stop projecting.
