Why are so few of us left active, healthy, and without personality disorders? The first Nite Owl runs an auto repair shop. The first Silk Spectre is a bloated, aging whore, dying in a California rest resort. Dollar Bill got his cape stuck in a revolving door where he got gunned down. Silhouette, murdered: a victim of her own indecent lifestyle. Mothman's in an asylum in Maine.

Bury him next to the guy scooting around on two blocks of ice.

He can walk just fine. Ask Mortimer

I had no idea he was still alive.  I have cousins in Sarasota, Florida and there's a huge statue/memorial thingie to that down there for some reason.

Anyone want to take bets as to whether or not Jezebel resurrects the "that sailor in the Times Square kiss was committing an act of rape" story?

Lay on, McDuffie.

Could we perhaps say just a nice thing or two about this situation...?

It sickens me that we live in a world where men feel free to take advantage of women like that.

I weep for the future.

Have you seen the Sarasota demographics? It's mostly composed of all the OTHER people in that famous picture.

So if you look at that statue in Sarasota today surrounded by the aged locals it's like déjà vu.

It is with all due respect that I say "Helloooooooooooo Nurse!"

It's certainly iconic and it's certainly sexual assault. Norms were different back then. *shrug*

No, but I'll hazard a guess this might not have been the guy

These days, tweets would announce the war is over and the nurse would have twerked with the sailor.

Goodnight, nurse molester.

The whole thing was staged. Take a look at all the images on google - almost the same pose with different people in the background. One shows a group of women standing there getting a good laugh out of the whole thing. He tried to produce a pron video from later that night, but none of the studios thought a shot of a single thrust and two minute hold would sell.

Wild Kingdom? - that was staged, too.

By today's standards, that would be arguable sexual assault.

In that time, a guy grabbing a random pretty girl in Times Square and planting one on her in the ebullience of the moment was iconic because that's how *everyone* felt. Holy shiat, the war is OVER! Let's jump up and down, scream for joy, kiss random strangers, etc.

It sucks that she wasn't as willing as millions of other women would have been, but it wasn't assault. If anything, it was a compliment. At that time.

Of course, we're also talking about a time when grabbing her ass on the subway would have been a 'compliment' too, so you can probably take that with a grain of salt...

Then: yes.

Now: of course not.

Different times, different rules and standards.
