If you are truly doing His Work, shouldn't it be done Out Front?

As I recall the yarn, The Devil was sent Out Back.

He said they should be taken out and shot, NOT take them out and shoot them.  Big difference.  He used the passive voice, as in pacifist.  Peaceful-like.  Like Jesus.

Okay - then explain to me what "figuratively take them out back" means, and specifically what it would entail.

Dinner! I said I wanted to take them out to dinner!

He doesn't literally want them shot.

He wants to return to the good old days of burning heretics at the stake.

Please do something about your idiot followers. Have you considered a Rapture?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Even though it is a figure of speech, it's a rather ugly one and one that decent people would not use on the air like that.

When the organization you support has a history of burning heretics alive, "take them out back and shoot them" means "take them out back and shoot them".  Sorry, Charlie.  No false apology for you.

The good news here is that Jesus died for his sins so he'll go to heaven.

An Auto-da-fé is much more illuminating, and more Catholic.  Combine it with a BBQ and raffle and you're done with church stuff for a week.

That's mostly the Dominicans, I think. The Jesuits may well enjoy a bit of buggery, but only as part of a well-rounded liberal arts curriculum.

What about literal stabbing? Is that effectively the same as figuratively shooting?

/when you've got them all lined up against the wall you've got to do something.

This is like every conservative now. They say crazy shiat and they have no idea what they are saying. They translate everything into crazy hyperbole. Is that an excuse? Hell no they should be called on it, everytime.

There has been many times I have used the exact wording someone said back at them and they said "I never said that" even thought it's exactly what they said.

It's more of the normal "I am not responsible for my own actions!" - Used to justify actions you see on the right now a days.

I have dedicated my life and career to ending violence.

Of course you have, it should be obvious to everyone. I can see it in this statement...

I do hope that they go to a Christian college or university and to keep them so far away from the hard left, human-hating people that run modern universities, who should all be taken out and shot.

Because nothing says "let's end violence" like the phrase 'They should all be taken out and shot'.

I'll buy that it was a figure of speech... but maybe an institution famous for murdering people in horrible ways over minor philosophical disagreements with great ceremonial fanfare should avoid those kinds of figures of speech.

BMulligan: Okay - then explain to me what "figuratively take them out back" means, and specifically what it would entail.

Fire them.  (not with actual fire, but  I suspect leftist nutjobs would take that as meaning burnt at the stake.  "Taken out back and shot" is a euphemism for what to do with rabid dogs that become harmful to the family.  So he is comparing liberal professors to rabid dogs that are harmful to the family.  He could have also said "given them the sack" though the literally challenged left often wonders why they don't actually get a sack when that happens. ).

There are literalists in Catholicism, but it's not official doctrine.

Of course that won't stop you, nor will it even slow you down.

No it doesn't. It doesn't mean "to fire people" - show me a reference that says that's what that means.

2014-03-14 04:53:43 PM

Austin Ruse should be taken out back and... forced to read the New Testament, repeatedly, until he actually understands it.

Why is it that, when it comes to inflammatory, violent rhetoric, you end up seeing some religious asshole at the forefront, simultaneously demanding the blood, harm, or death of another even as they claim that they're peaceful and non-violent?

Religion is the problem. Period. We're struggling to move forward as a society and as a species because, in large part, of religion. We need to move past religion.

It's interesting to see the level loathing and hypocrisy amongst the hardline right. They are literally seething. I envision people like this being red faced, teeth grit, veins bulging while they vomit up words of such disgust that eventually they burst a blood vessel and collapse into a catatonic mess on the floor.

2014-03-14 04:54:06 PM
I'll buy that it might have been a figure of speech, however...

Someone who has a radio show - from Rush with his millions of viewers to the guy who hosts the afternoon call-in show in Hicksville -  needs to realize that their words have power. Your audience might well be only fifty people, but you have no way of knowing who those fifty people are. One of them might be a nutjob who only needs the gentlest of nudges to fall off the precipice, and that "figure of speech" you think is harmless might just do the trick.

Right, because both are common colloquialisms for firing someone oh wait the one you provided is but "taken out back and shot" isn't, and unless you're trying to evoke a very specific, violent image in the process has never been commonly used to describe that.

Twit.

Given that "taken out back and shot" were actual friggin' orders, performed on actual friggin' people, your pathetic friggin' grasp at apologizing for this two-faced buffoon is just sad.

tbeatty: Fire them.

I've never heard "taken out back and shot" used to mean "fired from a job". Since it's such a common euphemism, could you provide an example?
