I was wondering how he got busted twice in the same night but then I read that the cops ticketed him and let him go after he got into an accident the first time. Cops deserve the Fail tag as much as he does.

That was going to be my question. If he was driving under the influence, why the hell would they let him back on the road? Couldn't the police officer be sued if the drunk killed someone when driving off?

Could be that he passed the field sobriety test and blew less than .08 on the Breathalyzer.  Without actually seeing him driving the car the cops might have had no choice.

I've heard stories of people getting a DUI at night and getting another the next morning when on their way to work.

This is what confuses me about our laws:

Drive drunk-- An act which could kill people-- and you get released and go on your way until the next time.

Be 18 years old and have sex with your 17-year old girlfriend in states where the AOC is 18, and you go to prison for 5 years, end up on the sex offender's list, and have your entire life ruined because of it... And all in a situation where nobody was actually victimized or in danger.

Why don't we have a "Drunk Driver's Registry" that affects where drunk assholes who get behind the wheel can live, work, and exist? Every auto dealership, car rental place, school, bank, church, etc. should be shunning these assholes a LOT more than the guy who got caught taking a piss behind a dumpster in a vacant lot or the dude who forgot to pull his blinds before dancing out of the shower naked into his living room.

It makes me ill that we don't treat DWI like the potential manslaughter it is, while we treat minor sex or nudity related situations like capital crimes that deserve a lifetime of punishment.

/No, I am not on the sex offender's list.
//I know it's because high school girlfriends' parents weren't jerks all those years ago.

And this should not happen. The first one should be the point where the police take your car and require you to seek help. There's no excuse for getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk. I can't understand letting these creeps go and letting them have their car after they get caught threatening other peoples' lives with it.

I almost feel sorry for the guy, except for the whole "double DWI's at the same burger joint" thing.

This topic really shakes me up. It fries my senses to think some dumb nuggets are still allowed to drive and the penalty isn't all that big.  Mac, let me tell you, my beef with the legal system is real. It cheeses me off to think there are people on the sauce and still driving. It's a real pickle. The should let us take action! They should bun people from driving. First, agree 100% with your idea about DD Registry and harsh laws against drivers who are drunk and cause car accidents.

As far as your sex-offender issue, you are off on your example.  Almost all (and maybe all) states with AOC laws also have laws that include the age difference of the two.  Usually 3 years (for example, 16 YO has sex with 15 YO - consensual - then NOT sex offender).

They did release him to sober friends, the article said.  Which does seem odd for someone who had already had a prior, however, they may have had something more important to attend to -- I got out of a couple of tickets in the past, because the cops got far more important calls than a moving violation, in one case the guy says "I just got a call to a homicide, so take this as a warning, and slow down."

Or it could've been a "i don't want to do this paperwork" or "drive back through all this traffic with a dude in tow" or whatever excuse.

My issue is the people who have multiples. If we could set the limit at a higher level, say 0.14 and outlaw road blocks, that would work. You get one DWI, you get a fine of 25% of your salery, you have to blow to start your car and you must be cleared by a medical doctor. Next time you get caught, you face a 60% salery fine, you lose your car, you lose your license for a year, you must complete rehab and your limit drops to 0.05. Any other DWI, you lose your license for life and you spend a long time picking up trash on the side of the road, making license plates...
