That is good to know.

One of my favorite things was Nigel Tufnel doing a duet with Les Paul before Paul passed away.

Agree that the commentary track on the DVD is one of the few I've ever sat through.  It's magnificent.

/Saw them on the 'Unplugged and Unwigged' tour a few years back, and got to visit Stonehenge when it came to the EMP in Seattle (pic in profile).

If you didn't know about the last one, get off the internet until you know how to use it.

I always thought it was inspired by the Rolling Stones documentary "Cocksucker Blues". Now I realize it could have been inspired by just about any rock band of the time.

The funniest thing in that article was pointing out that IMDB's rating goes to 11 for that one.  That's a good one!

Anyway, that movie is indeed a classic.  It's not exactly "laugh out loud" at a regular clip.  The humor is very dry.  But you can't help but look back on some of the ridiculous things they came out with.  Especially when you consider how much of it was almost certainly true of at least one band out there.

What's most impressive, really, is that it was all done with a four-page treatment. Most of that was improv comedy.

I used to say, "sex, drugs, and rock and roll." As long as there's sex and drugs, I can do without rock and roll.

That was apparently part of it.  I think it finally came out recently that he had developed a serious cocaine problem and that not only was he stoned out of his gourd but his heart was ready to explode, and the insecticide pushed things over the edge.

And can anyone tell me what's this commentary like?:

One Crazy Summer is the same way. The director, along with Bobcat Goldthwaite and Curtis Armstrong told some great stories. They talk pretty much the entire time, except for a couple of curious quiet moments that I suspect were edited out because they were saying something about Cusack.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the DVD commentary for PCU is one of the worst I've heard. There are actually two; one from the director, and one from Jeremy Piven. Piven spends almost the entire time on his biatching about the director for not letting the actors improvise scenes.

Ah, news to me.  The one I have is (going from my spotty memory) the 25th anniversary edition - they do the entire commentary in character, as if they're watching it for the first time since having walked out at the original premiere.  It's like a movie on top of a movie.

KingKauff: Did they have midgets dancing around it threatening to knock it over?

At the concert? No, I wish!  They did mix it up with A Mighty Wind numbers though which was  very cool.  I was quite impressed with Harry's bass chops.

The script they had would have covered locations, sets, and the general plot of scene - what they're talking about, etc. There were no actual lines written out for them.
