Bad news for who? Microsoft stock holders?

Haven't got ours yet, still trying to save money for it, and our current Xbox works fine. Some of the new games for the xbox one look amazing and so much fun, though, so I don't want to wait too much longer.

I want to get the PS4, but I'm waiting for a) price to go down and b) more games to come out.

Doesn't it take a really long time for them to lower prices on consoles?

Microsoft has already (temporarily) lowered the price by 100 bucks if you buy it directly from them.  IIRC the Titanfall bundle is available directly from Microsoft for $399.

I already own a ps4, but i'm happy to see xb1 finding it's feet sales wise.  With the wii u crashing and burning, the xb1 is the ps4's only real competition these days.  No one wants a one console monopoly in this day and age, it causes the winner to be arrogant and stop pushing the envelope.

Interested to see the effect of titanfall of it's sales, as well as if sony is going to get it's supply issues under control this month.  Both need to hurry up with the games already.

This. I would wait 18 months before buying a console anyway; just so must of the bugs that happen during that period are taken care of.

Not enough games to get me to buy one at this time.

Actually just went and checked and Microsoft has now killed the promotion.

From personal experience, it is a really nifty overall media center. Pretty buggy still and I had hardware issues with the Kinect sensor itself. When it works, it is nice. Games, of course, look amazing, Forza 5 especially. I didn't buy it only for gaming but there really aren't any titles out that excite me too much. I am excited about the Kinect Sports game coming out in April. I like the fact that the XBone is more interactive and has more uses than just gaming. That comes with a lot of bugs though. It tried to do too much and still release at the same time as the PS4.

I haven't seen anything of interest out yet that you can't also get on the 360. Witcher 3 looks good, but these days it seems smarter to wait for the "game of the year" edition for a game like that.

I will be going Playstation this gen for the simple fact that I have no desire to pay $100 more for a Kinect.

Pushing the envelope?  The consoles have come out so weak that you can buy a PC for less than a thousand that easily out powers them.  This is the first generation where that has happened with all consoles.  There is nothing interesting about them.

I think my 360 is on its last leg. Makes an awful whirring sound. But when it fails, I'll just replace it. Got too many games for the 360 I haven't played yet.

I'll get the One eventually.

It would help if there were more then six games for it, I know that will eventually work itself out, but right now the XBone is just a big expensive lump of silicon, metal and plastic.

Maybe that's because it's a steeper competition now but I think I remember the last gen being the same price or there abouts for a while. Even now the price of a 360 or PS3 is nothing to sneeze at. Not like the wii, which is like 10 bucks and you get a set of steak knives and a bj.

I'll have enough Sony rewards points to be able to buy a PS4 with points by the summer. But they're still in such short supply internationally that I'm not sure I'll be able to get one.

Every time I go to a big box store, I look to see what's on the shelf. There are always Xbox Ones and Wii Us. But there are almost never PS4s.

The funny thing is, the PS4 has the worst games lineup of the current consoles. Killzone: SF is just OK, and a lot of the digital games are ho-hum indies. You can't play PSX, PS2 or PS3 games on the platform yet, and it's not even as nice a media server as the PS3. The Vita remote play feature is nice, but my Vita time is currently spent on the Vita's great catalog and back catalog of games; I don't need to play AC4, CODG or KSF on my Vita right now (though I'll enjoy having the option when I finally DO get a PS4).

One game I am excited about on the PS4 is Planetside 2. Honestly, I don't know why Sony isn't crowing more about this game; they never seem to do a good job of pushing their own properties the way Microsoft does with its exclusives. They're stupid not to; it's been on PC for a year and a half now and it's one of the best online multiplayer shooters available. That it's free to play is just icing on the cake. Titanfall is a nicely-packaged knock-off of the Unreal Tournament games with a little bit of Mechwarrior thrown in, but Planetside 2 is actually an evolution on multiplayer shooters. And unlike Dust 514 on the PS3 (which is not a good game), Planetside 2 is actually worth plunking money into.

Until I get a PS4, however, I'm perfectly content with my PS3 and my gaming PC that's hooked up to the TV. Xbox One has very little to offer me, and I'll wait to get a Wii U until it's in the bargain bin (where it will almost certainly wind up in a year or two).

Leaning PS4 this generation as well.  But I think this commenter said it best.

Even at $400 I'd still get one if there were more games.

And I also agree with the other commenter that said both consoles need to do well.  If Microsoft and Sony duke it out, we as consumers all win.

This.

I bought a PS3 Black Friday bundle for half-nothing this past year.  There are so many cheap games available, and you can find most of them even cheaper on the "Pre-owned" shelves.

I'll probably buy a PS4 when the PS5 launches.  I doubt I'll have even finished all of the good PS3 games by then.

I think the PS4 is somewhat, and I say somewhat because depending on where you are you can easily find PS4s and it's now regularly on Amazon, supply constrained because they spread themselves so incredibly thin.  Sales in the US aren't spectacular and sales in Japan are worse than what the Wii U was at when it first launched.  People talk of record breaking sales, but the only reason for that is because sales were so front loaded with first adopters, which was the case with the Wii U as well.  I'm pretty fearful of the console game environment and this may be the last real generation before companies just give up on console gaming due to lack of sales, especially since people are really starting to notice the price disparity between the same game on console versus PC.

PC gaming, on the other hand, is killing it.  Mobile seems to have just absorbed the market of facebook and flash players.

i have very little hope for that game. the concept of 'hack everything' is kind of neat (and i'm a sucker for cyberpunk-ish stuff), but by making it a 'click butan thing hapn' type of interaction and limiting it to what appear to be either the pegs popping out and breaking cars or opening up pre-scripted deus ex style alternate routes in levels, it loses a huge amount of its appeal

combine that with the focus on shootmans and it smells more and more like they're just making a gta game with some farcry elements and being able to push buttons at range

For now I am sticking with my last gen systems, my wii u, and the PC I just built. Both Sony and Microsoft can DIAF. It is going to take some pretty amazing exclusives to get me on board.

/yes I know the gaming PC I built runs windows from Microsoft, but until a better gaming option comes up they can have my hundred bucks for an OS and nothing else.

Eh. If you want to wait for re-issues on things, they get cheaper. It's like buying a used car. Sure, it's cheaper and still good. You're just missing out on that 'new car! New year model!' Thing.

I agree with you mind, it's just, that's sort of obvious. Most people don't wait because they consider gaming a primary enjoyment and consider the cost worth it.

I mean, I could live in rice and beans. It's cheap and with minimal effort can be nutritionally valid.

I think you're right. Playstations sell well early because of rabid fanboys and loyal Japanese, but the Xbox just sells and sells and sells and sells. It doesn't win on speed, it wins on longevity.

Take solace in the fact that you can mod Bethesda out of FO4 because you know it's going to end up like Skyrim was on the PS3.

Is WL2 worth the purchase? I grabbed all the fallouts on GOG when they were free about a month ago and what I was seeing from WL2 is that it appeared to be more of a spiritual successor to the isometric fallouts than the original WL.

What, you mean you can buy hardware that costs 2-3x as much that outpowers them?

the problem in the console world was bleeding edge tech would require bleeding edge prices, and no one was willing to take that big a hit.  Instead, they tried to refine them as entertainment appliances, and price them reasonably for their power.  For the money, they are putting out some lovely games, even this early.

By pushing the envelope, I meant in terms of games, services, etc.  More entertainment apps, console features (adding in firmware patches) etc.

It's going to get to the point within a year or two that you can buy a pre-built PC for 4-500 dollars that will easily match, if not outclass the current generation of consoles.  PCs haven't been difficult to game on for the last 5 years or so either, unless you purposely tweak settings.  You install and play.  It's effectively as easy as consoles.

If consoles are still around, expect them to end up being between something like how a Wii U is to a regular PC in relative power.  They'll  have to be cost effective, because the console market is degenerating, and making AAA games is only getting more and more expensive.

I think WL2 will be worth it, but then I played the shiat out of WL and if WL2 has anywhere close to the humor and/or story as WL I'll be happy. Hell if WL2 is as good as Fallout Tactics, the weakest of the three original Fallouts, I';ll be happy. Given how long it took to actually get a WL2 though it is a crap shoot. Anyway you have it backwards Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics were spiritual successors to WL, and were supposed to be.

As for the beta of WL2, I've got an access pass, but refuse to be anybodies beta tester.

Is WL2 worth the purchase? I grabbed all the fallouts on GOG when they were free about a month ago and what I was seeing from WL2 is that it appeared to be more of a spiritual successor to the isometric fallouts than the original WL.

I'm waiting until the game is complete before I even consider buying it, I can't imagine a game with an actual story being good as an 'early access' title.

Being able to play isometric RPGs is the reason why I'm actually going to buy a PC eventually this year, instead of the shiatty netbook I have at home.  After slugging through the action-RPGs that Bethesda and Bioware have been pumping out, it'll be nice to play a game where you can actually role play to a degree and control party combat.

PIP_the_TROLL: Shakin_Haitian: People talk of record breaking sales, but the only reason for that is because sales were so front loaded with first adopters

I think you're right. Playstations sell well early because of rabid fanboys and loyal Japanese, but the Xbox just sells and sells and sells and sells. It doesn't win on speed, it wins on longevity.

It's odd to say that given the xbox line has never really won a generation.  Even the 360, with it's year headstart, is basically tied with ps3.

Playstations tend to actually have something of a slow buildup, rather then a frontloaded launch.  Go take a look at the launch aligned sales numbers for the series.  ps1 and ps2 both started slow, then ramped up as more titles became available.  even the ps3 fits that bill.  The ps4 is so far, trending ahead of all previous playstations, which is kind of interesting.

the XB1, to be fair, is trending above the 360 as well.  The wii U is trending below the gamecube, sadly enough.

Slaves2Darkness: Shakin_Haitian: Antimatter: Shakin_Haitian: Antimatter: I already own a ps4, but i'm happy to see xb1 finding it's feet sales wise.

Pushing the envelope?  The consoles have come out so weak that you can buy a PC for less than a thousand that easily out powers them.  This is the first generation where that has happened with all consoles.  There is nothing interesting about them.

So making them mini-PCs with a walled garden?

Always have been.

Since last generation, maybe, but the GCN/Xbox/PS2 on back, they were almost solely gaming machines that outclassed everything but the most ridiculously powered PCs.

Consoles have their place and will continue to do so no matter how many members of the master race threadshiat threads about consoles.  You should be happy that upgraded console hardware allows developers to make games for more powerful devices which allows us to use more than 30% of our gaming PCs.

Sorry, but you are wrong.  Consoles are not going to go away just because you and the rest of the neckbeards don't like them.  They will continue to be the way that the majority of the market consumes games and they will continue to set the bar for specs of AAA titles for a long while yet.  People are increasingly turning to less powerful but more mobile devices for their daily computing and this will only strengthen the market for consoles relative to PCs. Your PC is better, so is mine, it's a better device, experience and price but that doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Get over it.

If you are already a member I assume that you already own a PC, why are you waiting to buy a less powerful PC?

Basically, yeah.  The strength of the consoles is their ability to be relatively cheap all in one entertainment platforms these days.  From a dev standpoint, one unified spec to target also simplifies development a bit.  As two of them have become x86 platforms, this further eases dev's jobs.

As time goes on, the price decreases, keeping them competitive, and they tend to ave pretty long periods of support.  Yeah, in time you can build a pc that smokes them on the cheap, but then you run into issues playing newer pc games at their best, visually.  And your still looking at spending at least twice what the consoles cost.

It's really funny to see the endless frustrations of the PC masterrace fanboys.  they are eternally pissed that folks won't abandon consoles for their platform of choice.  Never occurs to them that many own both, or have no interest in PC gaming outside facebook.

I used to be a PC enthusiast, but it got too expensive and tiresome making sure my machine was powerful enough to play new games. Console solves that issue, though I still don't think it's as immersive as PC. Skyrim on a console just doesn't feel right.
