semiotix: Confidential to the coffee shop in my town:You're a good coffee shop, and I don't mind tossing whatever loose change I have left over from my regular-cup-of-coffee order into your tip jar.But when the coins I drop in it bounce off solid bricks of paper currency, wrapped around one another like you took a bank bundle of 100 $1 bills, removed the paper band, and jammed the whole thing into the mug at the start of the shift, you are not fooling anyone. Especially because when you hear the jingle of my coins going in, you spin around and look directly at the mug, because you know that's way too much money to have lying around where kids could steal it.Stop it, or I'll steal it myself, and I'm way smarter and more accomplished at petty theft than your average high school kid.
BioCritter: sendtodave: Here's a tip for any barista: Get some real skills and get a real job.Ok, whatever you say, cube drone. At least we can network with a variety of people, multitask, and handle pressure.
BioCritter: As a former barista, I gave better service to people who were 1) regular customers, and 2) tipped regularly. If those people stayed around until the end of the night working on their projects, they got a LOT of freebies - tea coolers, pastries, anything we were going to throw out anyway.
oa330_man: I understand the reason for the jar, but don't usually tip when I'm purchasing something from a counter. I usually just get a cup of coffee, sometimes a hot chocolate.I don't tip at Subway when I ask for green chili on my sandwich , why should I when I get a cup of coffee?
