(The CW DC)   It's The Cannonball Run minus Dom DeLuise. But, it turns out Dom DeLuise is the key to that whole formula working. Who knew?   (dc50tv.com) divider line 54

Does it have the bloopers reel during the credits?  That was always the best part.

I knew.

Heard today that the movie was shot without using CGI. Kind of want to see it now.

Kid, I know things about Dom DeLuise that would make you gargle bleach and take your own eyes out with a melon baller.

No! Cannon Ball Run 1 & 2, hell even Smokey and the Bandit did not take themselves seriously. They were making a goofy comedies and that just happened to feature fast cars and hot women with barely any plot and some really funny jokes.

Rebooting or even creating a sequel to Cannon Ball or the Bandit would be awesome if they did not insist on the BSG treatment. You know all serious and dark with a real plot and shiat. Hot women, fast cars, funny jokes in a cheesy movie that did not take itself seriously that is Cannon Ball Run.

Why have they never released 'Gumball Rally' on DVD?  WHY?

Watch yourself, Dom DeLuise is a national treasure, or was anyway.

Because it is cool, but not David Carradine in a pink hoodie and a scarf cool.

True.
NFS could have been the perfect vehicle (no pun intended) to counter the FF series by going the comedy route.

Then by having slapstick car crashes and whatnot would have allowed hem to keep the rating teen appropriate while having the action in place.
Plus, it would have fit the games tone better.

Website and headline is incorrect.

CBR had a bunch of b and c list celebrities and was toung in cheek stupid humor.

This movies seems to have none of this.

This needs an update also seeing as how it's 13 years old already.

Not that I'm too big a Family Guy fan, but Seth MacFarlane's "random acts of comedy" may work there.

He laughed first!  Mister Martin laughed first!

Geez, I watched that movie half to death when I was a kid (so young that I didn't understand at the time why cleavage could get a woman out of a speeding ticket).  This may be strange, but Jackie Chan's big fight against the bikers was my first exposure to movie kung fu.  I thought it was the most badass thing I had ever seen... even with the pants split.

I'll support the movie because of the stunt work.  Actual car stunts, not CGI laden super-slo-mo-3D-eyepopping-dirt-flying-from-tires crap.

I think you put in the appropriate number. And yes, Rat Race is pretty much a remake. (Homage?) Both movies are damn funny IMO.

The ad campaign they had on Adult Swim was pathetic.  Aaron Paul with the three douchebags nobody knows or cares about, trying to be funny, in the vein of the lame This is the End commercials.  It's sad, really, because Paul is awesome.

Somewhat Serious? Raul Julia "There 1st rule of Italian Driving, what's behind me is not important."  Gary Busey, the Jaguar Guys, It was racing scenes interjected with one-liners and an uncomplicated plot "Drive from NYC to Long Beach as fast as possible.   It is a simple movie, and because it is a simple movie it is a great car caper movie.

Can I ask a serious question about Cannonball Run?

Why was the race immediately over when the team with Adrienne Barbeau punched their timecard?  Considering Burt and Dom left the starting line well after the girls, couldn't they still win the race based on a faster overall run?

I understand the lunacy of questioning the internal logistics of "The Cannonball Run," but what the hell was the point of the timecards if the winner was determined by whoever got to the finish line first?

The bloopers at the end inspired Jackie Chan to use all the outtakes from his movies at the end, which have become just as famous as the films.

I watch this on a regular basis. It's based on the actual race, which Hal Needham did in an Ambulance as research for the movie.

Starring Roger Moore as Seymour who thinks he's Roger Moore. And you guys are forgetting the greatest pairing: Drunken Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. as Catholic Priests in a Ferrari. Try getting the bit where Dean Martin settles into the drivers seat with a highball full of scotch today.

Just saw Need for Speed.

Was expecting a lot worse than I got. Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) is a bit of a stand out, and Rami Malek steals the show in one scene. Everyone else just goes through the motions, more or less, though Imogen Poots can be a biatcharming.

The car action is rather well done, especially given what they had to work with. Anyone with half a brain will tell right away that the cars are fakes. There are only three races; the rest is a road trip to the main event, based loosely off of The Run video game (aka the last NFS that truly sucked).

One thing I didn't know going in was that it was converted to 3D. It works, but given the EA connection, I can't help but feel a sense of cash grab.

The Fast and The Furious, this is not. Take that as you will. But to be perfectly fair, there are worse ways to spend 130 minutes.

7/10.
