I like how MSNBC is now going the Fox News route by hiring attractive women to sell their brand. Because, you know, the hardcore MSNBC viewer doesn't drop the feminism card at the drop of a hat.  I applaud the choice of brunettes. It says "We are doing the same thing as the enemy. but our ladies aren't held down by a stereotype."

I enjoyed watching Krystal Ball go full herbal teabagger on the left-wing moderates.

It's as if they crazies on the left saw all the attention the crazies on the right have gotten over the last couple of years and decided they could have it, too.  And all it takes is the complete evisceration of their political party.

In October 2010, Ball received national attention when photos taken six years earlier emerged showing her at a holiday party dressed as a "naughty Santa" sucking a red dildo attached to her then-husband's nose.

Her insistence that the age gap between the Democrats and GOP will remain constant is historically inaccurate.

As people get out of school and go into the real world they start to form their own opinions start shedding the liberal leanings of today's educational institution.

I came out of school democrat, move to the GOP, back to Democrat (thought I would give them a second try), now I am Independant for life.

I'm socially liberal (support gay marriage, support anti-discrimination, support civil and workers rights) and fiscally conservative (we need to actually be able to pay for this shiat instead of kicking the bill down the street to the next generation) and anti-banker/wall street.... if we could afford it, I would be all in for single payer healthcare, but history has shown that politicians would just raid the fund like they did with social security.

Not a single party out there makes sense to me anymore.

Not just that, we are giving billions away to other countries every year that eventually stab us in the back anyhow.

Personally, I would like to see the 'federal' military decentralized back to the states... we should make it extremely hard for politicians to get us into any war except for self defense of our own lands... for such a 'peace' loving country, over the last 225 years we have been to war more than any other country on earth.

I agree, though I don't think they're too stupid, I think they're making the miscalculation that the "Evangelical" demographic offsets the "younger voter" demographic and helps them win elections. The sooner they realize that The Church is losing membership while "Younger Voters" is a strong demographic worth embracing, the better off they'll be.

Yeah that one's a particularly empty cliche. The young people who are conservative are almost always ridiculously sheltered, and leaving school for the real world will open the eyes of at least some of them and make them less conservative.

And for every liberal who shifts towards the right as they become more invested in the status quo, there's another one who gets screwed by the status quo and moves farther left.

Once upon a time, back in the days before AM radio and FNC shrunk the tent and turned the GOP into the ball of crazy shiat it is today, I'd grant that such a thing was at the very least possible. Not sure how attractive the GOP in its present form would be to anyone who isn't already in it.

This has to have been studied by someone somewhere -- I wonder how many people have changed their party preference to Republican from something else or changed their orientation to "conservative" after being liberal/independent/disinterested/apolitical/whatever from 2005-present? I would be very surprised if new repub/conservative voters weren't limited to young adults who grew up that way, people who joined conservative churches and people who married into it.

If they're smart the Republican Party's researched this, but I doubt they'd make the results public. Some day I'd love to see some actual data to confirm my preconceived notions...

it's actually a pretty attractive party as long as you're doing well

it relies upon blaming others for your hardships, which only works when your 'hardships' aren't anything critical like a single mother trying to ensure her kid has food. when your world is insular to the point where the major issues in your life are things like people around you speaking spanish or having to wait a short while before purchasing a gun, you have a welcoming party

That's their sales point, but really the GOP is a fiscal trainwreck.  They won't hesitate to crash the economy for a petty political stunt.

Compare that to right-wing nutjobbery. Modern American conservatism has become the philosophy of freeriders. You know that asshole who drives 200 yards past the "right lane closed ahead" sign and then gets pissed when you won't let him enter traffic in front of you? That's the model for what now passes for "conservative" behavior.

Quoting the article linked below:

THE GIST
- Contrary to popular belief, people generally do not become more conservative as they age.
- Seniors often describe themselves as being more tolerant and more open to new ideas in their old age.
- What's happening in society when people come of age often greatly influences the set point for their core beliefs.

More power to her if she's secure enough in her marriage that she's not threatened by that sort of thing too.

Also, I watched the video. It was fairly reasonable and we should be looking at our (Democratic Party) candidates with regard to corporate influence.

James!: dwrash: As people get out of school and go into the real world they start to form their own opinions start shedding the liberal leanings of today's educational institution.

I've heard this a bunch, but I've never seen it.

That's because it is largely an outdated truism. When capitalism was still maturing in North America it was a valid observation. Opportunities existed, capital was available and class ceilings tended to be weak. The situation has changed. We need a new vocabulary to describe today's economy. It's not mercantilism, though it has many similiar symptoms. It isn't quite an oligarchy...yet. It's very similiar to early mid industrial revolution. Large numbers of people are marginalized by automation, computerized systems, etc. We need a new paradigm. Technology has evolved faster than society has. In almost every single generation that has gone before, the pace of change has allowed society to adapt over a period of time sufficient to allow valid adaptations in attitude, ethics and mores to be passed on. Now we face a world where all of these may change during the time it takes to acquire a University education. The lessons learned aren't even valid for the time it takes to have a family. Alvin Toffler didn't get a lot of details right, but he foresaw a real problem.

True. Currently, however, we only have one side going extreme. The hypothesized left extremist positions are yet to become reality. So you think it's ok to sacrifice Labor and their values to the capitalist machinery just so everything will stay smooth?  Maybe it's time to shake up the status quo and demand real change rather than accepting that Labor will have to wait a little while longer (again) for "their turn".

Heh. Hardly. I take it you didn't comprehend what I wrote. I merely make the point that the interests of business and labour are not mutually exclusive. Germany sets a good example. For that matter, so did the period from 1955 to 1980 in the US. Very different methods, of course...

I see.  So long as Labor plays by the rules that CorpUSA has established, then everything runs in harmony and everyone gets what they want.  Of course, the corporations get a little *more* of what they want than does labor, but just so long as nobody is complaining, then nobody is hurt by a little greed, right?

Dan the Schman: Are you intentionally trying to prove his point?

Lucky LaRue is the current king troll on Fark. He is not serious at all, and won't engage in actual conversation, its just:

LLR: "libs libs libs"
Some Farker: "what?, you're retarded."
LLR: "Why are you attacking me, you libs sure are crazy!"
Some Farker: "What, that makes no sense, why did you say X, Y and Z?"
LLR: "LOL, why do *YOU* think I said that?"

rinse, wash repeat ad nauseam.

Ah. Sigh. THAT's why it was so easy.

Yeah, clearly I'm a conservative troll.. whatever makes it easier for people to avoid having their worldview challenged, they'll buy - no matter how absurd the premise.

I like how even though Krystal Ball has had a show for a while now, that she still can't afford shirts with sleeves.

Hey Krystal! Get yourself some sleeves girls. You deserve it!

Lucky LaRue: I enjoyed watching Krystal Ball go full herbal teabagger on the left-wing moderates.

It's as if they crazies on the left saw all the attention the crazies on the right have gotten over the last couple of years and decided they could have it, too.  And all it takes is the complete evisceration of their political party.

Feel free to tag me as an "herbal teabagger". I think it's a cute moniker.

You guys are getting primary'd by folks with integrity eventually. :D

Thanks for the laugh.

No conservative intellectual's stepped up to the plate yet, but hey, the day's still young. I'm sure the challenge will be accepted any minute now

Stop, man, you're killing me.

Ha. You would have better served your position had you provided a reasoned point rather than foolishly carrying out the ad nauseum repititon.

Are you sure you don't have me confused with someone else?  The only thing I've been repetitive about is asking mike_1962 to justify his apologist position about Big Business and Labor.

Perhaps. I'm on the mobile so it's a little messier. Frankly I wish Fark would provide each comment with it's author rather than just having a list of monikers and then requiring us to do the math. Sorry if I misquoted.

The conservatards just keep scrying about Krystal Ball.

These threads are just more evidence that the American Right has lost it's collective marbles.

I foresaw what you were going to do there.

phaseolus: Walker: Krystall Ball? Really? What parent names their kid Krystall Ball? I guess the same kind that names their kids Dick Trickle or Ima Pigg.

/RIP Dick Trickle

I'm related to a Candy Bahr. She kept her name when she got married, she's always been in sales of one kind or another, and people never forgot her name.

We used to have an IBM sales rep named "Kandi Barrell".

She was a damn good sales rep. I never gave her any grief over her name; I figured she'd gotten tired of the jokes long ago. Besides, I've been the brunt of jokes about my own name often enough.

This thread is sorely lacking in pictures of Krystal Ball.

And?

love Krystal and Abby. They bring a lot of good commentary, and it doesn't hurt that they are very pretty. But to WTF Indeed, MSNBC has always had the hottie of news: Chris Jansing.

What a trolly thread..

Anyway, I was barely familiar with Krystal Ball's name, but I really like the transcript in the link.

Yes, the Republicans can't possibly last much longer, but they are determined to cause as much pain, suffering, and death as they can while they still can.
