Oh, you're adding 1 word so you can update the official dictionary? Is there a way Hasbro could do even less to make money?

Yeah, I don't get this either. Unless your in an official championship I thought any dictionary could be used. Who the heck would want to play with a dictionary that hasn't been updated in 8 years.

The "official" Scrabble dictionary is missing a majority of words in the English language.  It is utterly useless.

We have a rule when playing scrabble (and bananagrams).  If you cant use it in a sentence (that isnt '[insert word here] is a great scrabble word") its not allowed.  Gets rid of all the two letter WTF words.

MindStalker: any dictionary could be used

that how we play.

CBS - One time we were playing with my friend and his wife.  she asked about a word and we said if it was in the dictionary, it was allowed.  she looked in our dictionary and proceeded to play the C-word

The company's allowing players to vote in the comments section of a post on the Hasbro Game Night Facebook page. In case you were wondering, of course, "selfie" and "twerk" have been nominated

This is what happens when you let 12-year-olds vote.

Next time I play I say we should make "Urban Dictionary" the one dictionary allowed. No, I'm sorry, but QUIXOTRY might be a real word, but its not in the Urban Dictionary, so you can't use it.

That would make for an interesting game....

And yet both are heard in national news broadcasts. I think their times have come.

A terrible idea I had for high-stakes Scrabble is to take an ordinary dictionary and remove some pages at random.  Of course, you can't look at what pages were removed.  And then that is the official dictionary for your Scrabble game.  It could make things more interesting; any challenge has a chance of working.

It's also kind of a terrible idea, but I had to tell someone sometime and here we are.

The Fourth Edition came out in 2005 and is missing a lot of modern words, especially computer related, so I keep looking for Edition 5 but it never appears.

It's a proper noun (a noun that, in its primary application, refers to a unique/specific entity).  Scrabble doesn't allow names and other proper nouns.

There's some grey area (earth, for instance) but "Zen" isn't in the grey area.
