Girl on girl is as far as I got prior to clicking.

™ and no one is surprised

So... they're a couple of gay or bi-girls.  One of them has it.  Passes it on to the other.  Mystery solved.

2014-03-14 08:11:29 AM
The couple said they routinely had unprotected sexual contact and shared sex toys between them. At times, the contact was "rough to the point of inducing bleeding in either woman,"

I don't know...sounds kinda hot to me.

Indeed.

Sounds like that double dildo scene from Requiem For A Dream.

And at least it wasn't scissoring, not hot at all.

It's actually almost unheard of for lesbians to transmit HIV to one another.  When it does happen, it makes the news.

I have it on good authority from resident fark lesbians that they really don't do that.

TFA:  At times, the contact was "rough to the point of inducing bleeding in either woman," according to the CDC. The women said some of the unprotected sexual contact occurred during menstruation.

And girl-on-girl surprises them?

That's some grade-A stupid right there.

You said: girl on girl HIV transmission

They said: 46-year-old woman with newly diagnosed HIV "had a virus virtually identical to that of her female partner.

THIS
is why I don't ever click on any Fark story that has the words "hot" and "female" in the headline.

Isn't this one step short of being an anti-vaxxer, on the medicine skeptic scale?

That's my assumption, she's lying.  She's either been shooting up or screwing someone with AIDS.
On the off chance she's not, women bleed 1/4 of the time. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to study it out.

That too.  95% of people that I knew (back in the day) that regularly sold plasma had a dependence problem of some sort.

From your link "Sexual practices included sharing of sex toys and oroanal and orogenital contact, which never occurred during menses but which was occasionally traumatic enough to draw blood. "

I was so impressed with the word oroanal, by the time I got to the end of the sentence, I was confused how oralanal was traumatic enough to draw blood.

/Oroanal

It's nice to know that someone knowingly dating someone infected with HIV was responsible enough to be regularly selling plasma and seemingly dependent on its income.

/What could possibly go wrong?

So the circumstances confirm exactly what I immediately assumed.

Both women in the story are stupid beyond redemption.

It didn't occur to them that bleeding on sex toys and sharing them would transmit a blood-borne virus? Come on. Who's that dumb.

TheGogmagog

HIV mutates quickly so everybody has a slightly different version. It is possible to say with some confidence "X probably got it from Y" because they have the same strain. Or "Y probably got it from X," but in this case we know Y had it first.

The mutation rate is one reason HIV is hard to control. It quickly changes to beat each new drug. Current standard treatment uses multiple drugs simultaneously. If the virus can beat one drug, the other two still knock it down.  Because it's a retrovirus it can't be eliminated from the body. Drugs only keep it inactive. Most infected people need drugs for the rest of their life.

If only the Republicans hadn't taken away all their free condoms and birth control, these poor lesbians couldn't even afford condoms for their sex toys.  Chalk up another casualty to heartless Mitt Romney and his war on women.

If she bothered to keep up with her meds her viral load could've stayed undetectable and the transmission that much more difficult.  But no.  You have here a complacent asshat who not only won't take her damn meds, but who also manages to directly expose her partner to her blood.  Nice.

A little common sense a day keeps the HIV at bay.

Fark fodder, sure, but I can't fathom why the article exists in the first place.

Nowhere in the article does it say that the recently infected partner knew the other was infected.

Partner transmission often occurs due to the infected lying to the uninfected.

I guess the thing I find alarming here is why there were blood donations coming from someone having regular sexual contact with a person infected with a blood-borne illness like HIV. I find it hard to believe that such a thing passes muster...

I would need to see a video of two hot young lesbians re-enacting the specific sex acts before I could offer my opinion.

Many can't afford it, especially in states like Texas. In Southern states, half of all people who know their status aren't taking their meds, mostly for financial reasons. Without an official diagnosis of AIDS, she couldn't get the Ryan White assurance for HIV drugs, especially since Texas' Medicaid income and assets threshold is so frighteningly low. This is one of the reasons the state's refusal to take the Medicaid expansion is so evil - people aren't getting the treatment they need and are spreading their diseases to others, all for literally no reason other than hatred for the n-bong in the White House. It's sickening, and it's disgusting.

Maybe the person in this case could afford it and did qualify and was just irresponsible - she wasn't exactly making good choices - but there are many with her status who can't afford life-saving care that also protects others.
