That and low-quality boxing. Same reason I gave up on that kink.com wrestling site: the low-quality wrestling made it less sexy.

Hey, that claymation program had them splattered all over the ring

Oh... oh. nm.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but the only "Celebrity Deathmatch" that ever mattered was the claymation stuff MTV did years ago. Although maybe those were better because the celebs did die.

Wasn't Celebrity Deathmatch the Claymation thing or am I misremembering?

I should have refreshed.

I had no idea there was anything BESIDES the Claymation one. Which were occasionally pretty good. They should bring that back. I want to see Lady Gaga destroy Miley Cyrus.

I'd love to see Keith Richards take Justin Beaver out. Not that Keith should be in there.

Lots of ads on the 'celebrities' for that Golden Casino website. But not enough for me to crank up the modem and go look.

And here I thought it was because it wasn't funny like the original Celebrity Deathmatch (which jumped the shark with the first appearance of Zatar).

Yeah, and it was the best thing on MTV at the time. I think MTV went off the air shortly after they stopped showing it

The problem Celebrity Deathmatch ran into was continuity. Namely, they had it. They piled themselves in their own mythology, decided they needed explanations as to why celebrities were fighting again after they'd lost and why historical figures were fighting, they piled the storylines high and deep and eventually they just plain wrote themselves into a corner. What they needed to do was cut any potential continuity off at the knees:

'Wait, didn't Leonardo DiCaprio lose? Why is he fighting again?'
'Because shut up, that's why.'

And then just shove DiCaprio back in the ring and get on with it.

I loved the old claymation series, and I kinda wish they would release a "complete series" box set or something. Also, they should bring it back for current celebrities, because honestly, we have a lot of stupid celebrities that deserve their comeuppance in the ring.

/Loved the Beastie Boys episode.

They did do a reboot a couple years later where they chucked pretty much every bit of continuity that had been causing them problems and started over from scratch. Which was great, but then they turned the gore up by about a factor of five, so what would have previously been a bloodless slicing off of a limb became half a fountain, and it turns out that made the matches a lot less fun. It got cancelled relatively quickly and I think deservedly so.

THe subby just played off the article writers usage in the Headline, but, the article writer rightly called it what it was.... "Celebrity Boxing" on FOX. Which, fortunately, didn't last all too long, and was just a part of the "crap titilation" programming Fox was trying during the 2000's....

Celebrity Boxing
Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire (who is really only barely that on paper, and otherwise pretty creepy)
Moment of Truth
Skating with Celebrities
Temptation Island
Joe Millionaire

I am sure I am missing a few more here....

No, but this is as good a time as any to mention that "Claymation" is a trademark of Vinton Studios, and since Celebrity Deathmatch was not made by Vinton Studios, it is not "claymation". It's "stop-motion animation", or "Clay animation".
