fta "Whether both or either politician sought or received money or other benefits from donors and/or fundraisers in connection with doing political favors or taking official actions."

So they are politicians?

I can tell this story's legit because it's uses so many words and details.

I'm confused, when has it become legal for politicians to receive donations to their campaign from various interest? I thought this was standard. Or is there a specific law against the gambling industry?

Can someone explain to me how political fundraising ISN'T suppose to work like this? Going to the NRA and asking for money while telling them that are are going to introduce laws to ban guns isn't going to raise many funds. Or is there something more that the story isn't covering beyond fund-raising.

(Yes, the house-selling part is kind of suspicious...)

This bit:

"On the recording, Mr. Johnson tells Mr. Swallow that, after Mr. Reid departed, Mr. Johnson himself pulled aside an online gambling official to ask about his announcement.

"I [Mr. Johnson] said, 'How in the hell did you guys get him to do that?' And he [the online gaming official] says, 'Let's just say he got a little something in his retirement fund.' And I was like, 'OK, that's how it is.'"

But, they don't go on to provide any supporting evidence that it actually happened...

I'm going to err on the side of "This didn't happen." The justice department is not going to stop the investigation of such an important member of congress, because when it comes out (Notice I didn't say if), it will be a huge scandal. Nobody is going to keep quiet about something of this magnitude. That's a clear-cut case for a whistleblower to come forward without any ramifications.

How dare the Justice Department impede this important and totally justified waste of taxpayer time and expense?

It's the Moonie Times. Who needs evidence when you've got hearsay.

Haha, that's the worst allusion I've ever heard.

"Let's just say I bribed him with a lot of money for his personal use."

Meh, once the mob tries to kill you with a car bomb-and fails-you tend to think you are pretty much immortal for quite awhile.

If I recall, it was something like a burning rag hanging from his gas cap.  Something far less than the bomb that injured Frank Rosenthal.  Some say Cleanface even did it himself.

I'm off to the edges of the internet to research.
