My husband and I enjoyed "Taken: Airplane Version" last weekend and we'll probably see this.

Because Liam Neeson.

Aside from the promise that no one will be "taken," plot details are otherwise being kept under wraps for now.

"Taken 3: The Untakening"?

Or maybe it won't be a person but a thing? Someone takes Liam Neeson's parking space?

And yet it still wouldn't be the worst trilogy Neeson participated in.

I loved the first one, but it looked like they were running out of steam ten minutes into the second one.  By the time it became obvious they couldn't mask Liam Neeson's age with fast camera moves at the end of the movie, I was ready to let it die.  I love Neeson, but it was obvious he was moving a little slower in the second one.

I still think that busting up a sex trafficking ring was a noble task even if it didn't involve his daughter.

You'd think if he was debriefed on his return after the 1st one; that someone, somewhere would want more of these sex trafficking rings busted up.

Love Liam Neeson.  Saw non-stop the other week and liked it. I admith that I feel like the taken is going to far.  He already killed the father and son kidnappers.  What's next?  The mother, brother, sisters, cousins?  How about he kill the whole damn extended family to be safe.

I won't lie.  I would watch that.  I could see it now.

Liam: Do you know who's parking space that is?
Actor 1: No, I don't care.
Liam: It's mine.  Now move.
A1: Why?
Liam: Cause i'm Liam Neeson
A1: I don't care th....
Liam: (cuts off A1 mid-sentence) Look.  You may not who I am, but I am a man with a very specific set of skills.  Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you move your car now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
A1: (Starting up engine) I'm moving the car, I'M MOVING THE CAR.

FTA: Aside from the promise that no one will be "taken," plot details are otherwise being kept under wraps for now.

It seems pretty obvious to me what the next one will be from the end of the second:

"You have other sons?"
"Two."
"And if I kill you, they will come and seek revenge?"
"They will for sure."
"And I will kill them too."

Taken I was enjoyable. Taken II was phlegh. I liked the final fight, but the rest just dragged.

Non-Stop was enjoyable, til the bad guy gave his monologue.

Liam Neeson bores the shiat out of me in every movie he's in. I don't understand the adoration he gets from people.

Movie producer: Hey, we need an older man with a face that looks like a chainsaw sculpture to deliver all this dialogue in a boring, flat monotone. Who do we have?

Other movie producer: Liam Neeson?

Movie producer: Perfect!

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for paring space theives like you. If you let me park there now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

HooskerDoo: TAKEN IV: ALIMONY DUE

Not quite.  Liam was the guy whose wife died in a skiing accident from a brain bleed.  So no alimony need there...

It's mildly concerning that Liam Neeson is still working his ass off since the death of his wife almost five years ago.  Hope he's taken the time at some point to stop and grieve or something.

Well, no. Sex trafficking focuses on Eastern European women, from 3rd world former soviet blocs or similar. Or girls from Africa, Asia, or South America.

What it never focuses on is rich white Americans because that's a sure fire way to get farking hunted down by the government and national media. So the entire point was wrong to begin with.

I view this like 'saw'; the first was great. I skipped the rest because they went from great if silly to farking stupid.

I think that's why he's been so productive - throwing himself into his work.

It was while watching, and being utterly bored by, the near-universally loved Taken that I realized that either I was getting old or that everyone else's taste in movies had gone to crap.

I'll stick with Commando for my "Pissed off dad kills 10,000 foreigners to get back his kidnapped daughter" needs, thank you very much.

2014-03-14 09:18:35 AM
I liked Taken in spite of itself. It was a dumb movie, but it hit you right in the jimmies. It was every dad's revenge fantasy. Death Wish for a new generation.

I've not yet seen Taken 2. It's been sitting on my hard drive, waiting for a hungover evening where I don't have enough dignity to avoid it.

That they'll make another is not surprising, but Death Wish 3 was an awful movie.

As if we could be so lucky.

A commenter over on JoBlo.com suggested that this sequel focus on Neeson and his old CIA buddies.  Another suggested that Maggie Grace take on even more of an action role this time around, with her character learning and taking on more of Dad's traits.

I don't have a problem with either of those.

While I enjoyed them as fun shooting movies, they were not good. The last one made Hudson Hawk look stunningly well written.

Is he really working that much? He's done a lot of cameo and voice stuff since 2009, and that's far less time-consuming than location work.

That was Maggie Grace's terrible attempt at acting younger since she's over a decade older than the character she played.  She hilariously overdid it.

His wife is gone and his kids have moved out. Work is probably the only thing keeping him sane. It might be one of those situations where taking time off would just make him feel lonely and depressed.

That's why he's jumped from being very selective and taking Oscar bait roles to taking any job in any low budget action movie that's offered.

His interview from a few weeks ago said exactly that - he said if he wasn't working he'd fall into a pit of despair.  As long as it works for him.
