(Fox News)   Of course you put a red-light ticket-cam in front of a hospital emergency room, because no one is ever in such dire need that they would justifiably run a red light to get life-saving care   (foxnews.com) divider line 8

Repeat news is so exciting!

I'll repeat what I said in the last thread this came up in: If you feel like you need to be blowing through red lights to get to a hospital, you should have called 911 in the first place. You deserve the ticket for putting everyone in danger around you.

Uuuuuuuuuuum, call me crazy, but if I was having heart attack-like symptoms like that guy was, driving would be the last thing on my mind!

Well, yeah, but there could conceivably be a circumstance where a phone call isn't possible. Although I guess you could fight the ticket in traffic court; bring the hospital report or whatever to substantiate your argument etc.
I see your point though. Maybe I just hate those cameras.

yes it is a repeat

too many people say but i can get there faster...yes, you may be able to get there faster but you are risking the lives of everyone around you

how many times do doctors have to tell people if you believe you are experiencing a heart attack or think you are in labor DO NOT DRIVE

i have heard (tune in radio picks up local ems) of a woman that while stuck in traffic was smart enough to call 911 when she thought she was in labor and some local asshole calls into a radio station traffic report whining about how the ambulance and woman were delaying traffic after ems had to get radio stations to do on air appeal to let the ambulance get to the woman he said "why doesnt she drive herself"

from the time the initial 911 call was dispatched to the ambulances arrival was almost 45 minutes

here is the kicker I have worked as an ambulance driver in rural nowheresville there were times when we would have to ask a family member to drive the patient and meet us somewhere because fark directions like turn left onto the bike trail after johnson's barn were good directions and johnson's barn had burned down 10 years before

that was an epic fickup where the fire department couldnt find the address and literally drove around just aiming for the flames

anyone notice that most of the malaysia air stories are repeats save for one sentence and they just greenlight because it is a different news outlet

In all circumstances, treating a red light as a two-way stop should be permissible; in other words, if absolutely no one is coming or crossing, sitting at a red just wastes everyone's time and gas. If you hit someone, no matter how minor, you go to jail for a while and lose your license for a longer time. Reckless driving and red light running being treated as revenue generating offenses instead of actual safety crises is a major part of the reason why roads are so dangerous. Sober reckless driving kills far more than drunk reckless driving (because far, far more people are sober in accidents, of course).

With those rules, a red light camera at a high-danger area where lots of stressed out cars and pedestrians mingle isn't the worst thing. Even with the usual oppressive money-hungry enforcement, at least it's a lower fine than the alternative of having a cop sit and watch for danger.
