Or is there a quail on the farm?

That's a pretty small chicken period.

Smallest egg for a chicken, or just small in general? Because hummingbird eggs are practically microscopic.

But what does it taste like?

I'm certain human eggs are far smaller, and I'm also reasonably sure that human eggs are not the smallest in the animal kingdom.

We get those little eggs every time our chickens start laying again after the winter.  They're just annoying.

Mmm mini eggs

My grocery store sells 20 dollar chip sized bags of these things starting in February until Easter,  I've put on a few pounds because of them.

My girls lays a smaller one every month.

Slow news day in cheddarville?

No.  Not at all.

I raised chickens.  They lay things we call "egg fats".  Some are very tiny, even smaller than what you see there.

I'm not alone.  Ask anyone who's raised chickens for eggs.

FARTS.  Damn autocorrect!

I like your reasoning sir, and came to post something similar.

I wouldn't have thought so, but, even at 0.12mm, human eggs are still, apparently, visible to the naked eye.

Regarding the size of other animals eggs; intuitively, we'd assume that smaller animals may have smaller sex cells. But I'm thinking of the chart we were shown in biology class of young foetuses. And, no matter which species the animal is, the foetuses are all pretty similar.

That is to say, that the sex cells of all mammals start off really tiny. It's the gestation period and the time after birth that dictates the animal's eventual size.

Half a henway.

Egg, Son of Muffin? I guess technically the Mc- prefix is used for the father, but that deadbeat probably didn't even stick around.

My hens lay eggs smaller than that all the time. But I have Seramas, the smallest breed of chicken in the world. Their eggs are not much bigger than quail eggs. Hate to spoil the kid's dreams of a world record, though, so we'll keep that to ourselves, shall we?

I was going to say, looking at the picture that egg is quite a bit larger than your average wild quail egg, to say nothing of other, smaller birds.

Also, while that's interesting from a novelty perspective, I can't imagine that bodes well for the health of any offspring that chicken is going to (attempt to) produce.

God dammit, now I really want the un-coated versions with the rice crunchy things in them.  You know, Crunch Bar, but in tiny egg form.

Fart or wind egg. No yolk normally. Get a tiny serama chicken (about side of a soda can) and have it lay one of these mistakes and those are very tiny.

I've gotten smaller than in the article from my ameraucanas in the past.

We've got a bantam that looks just like Muffin and she's just about laying age. ChallengeAccepted.jpg

Katrushkak: So it's an Egg McMuffin?

Nah, it contains more real egg than whatever you find in a McMuffin.

2014-03-14 08:38:12 AM
Eh. My pullets usually lay eggs like that just before they start laying for real.

Can we talk about the more interesting part of this article, which is that some chicken apparently laid a 16 oz egg? That HAD to hurt.

that is an awesome pic, that kid sure looks happy!

What is truly weird is when your chicken lays a shell-less egg.

yes, she is adorable, and looks very happy, Guiness has stated they don't have a record for smallest egg, this article can be used as an example of media coverage, and they have no reason to NOT list it as the smallest egg laid by a common chicken even though most people know that this is just a fart of a preseason egg and is quite common..

But.. let the dear have her moment of glory
