(Gothamist)   Experts agree that all those parrot-pigeon "hybrids" that have been seen all over NYC are really the work of some birdbrain that likes to dye them   (gothamist.com) divider line 18

I would have said photoshop.

Hybrids don't look like this:

They look like this:

You can the see the features of both parents, but it's a uniform whole.

All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning dyeing pigeons in the park.
Ev'ry Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison dye  the pigeons in the park.

They're not dyed.  They're pining for the fjords.

I can't wait for the Monty Python "Dyed Pigeon" sketch.

My first thought is that the idea of a parrot-pigeon hybrid is so profoundly ridiculous that there's no way anybody could have believed that or come up with that.  Then I realized, that I'm wrong.  There are people that believe two very distantly related vertebrates from not only two different species and genera, but also two different families could possibly produce a hybrid and that the hybrid would look 100% like one of the parents in every morphologically and taxonomically significant way, with the exception of some very unusual and likely artificial coloring that doesn't even look like the coloring of one of the other supposed parents.

Gyrfalcon: Dyed pigeons? Why?

Many, many years ago, when D1vwife had a cat (all white) I ran across some markers filled with food coloring/dye.  From that day on the cat was always colored with whatever color scheme was appropriate for the season (orange and black for Halloween, Red and Green for Christmas, etc.)

The cat didn't mind, and since her primary job was to lie on the windowsill and snooze I figured she might as well be decorative.

That is an awesome idea, and the markers are inexpensive. GAME ON!

New York actually DOES have wild parrots. A few decades ago some Quaker Parrots escaped and now they're all over Brooklyn.

And don't feel sorry for these critters. Quaker Parrots are some of the most evil things alive, and it's Brooklyn you should feel sorry about.

Kool-Aid works well too. Mix it up extra strong and paint it on. Used to use it on our dog at Halloween cuz it didn't last as long as the food color....

TV's Vinnie: Quaker Parrots are some of the most evil things alive

Fortunately they can be easily recognized by their distinctive HA! HA! call.
