what would Keystone have to do with LNG?

I guess Europe doesn't want Russian oil anymore.

Not after they start getting US natural gas.

They're gonna have to wait awhile for that one, the US currently doesn't export ANY liquefied natural gas like the Russians have. The first  liquefaction plant isn't even coming on line until next year. Gonna be a cold winter in Europe I guess.

If only there was some pipeline to an abundant energy source which could increase energy exports from north America.. could call it Keystone maybe?

Nuclear power could work well. Unfortunately there are people out there who are alarmists who put their fear in front of progress. Its a shame, too, because a lot of the people that sell oil aren't very nice people.

Interesting video.. and he's right about a lot of it. Lost me at the end when he was talking about the A-bomb though. That was bullshiat (about Japan being in the throes of surrender).

I was thinking the same thing. Japan was ready to fight to the last man, the bombs stopped that.

Exporting Canadian tar sands oil isn't something the US should be getting into. If we're going to start up exports, it should be natural gas.

shower_in_my_socks: Russia totally didn't invade Georgia

Hey frkko the clown,

You think Georgia launching a large-scale military offensive against South Ossetia  is the same thing that happened to ukraine?

Totally the same thing.   Next up, you are going to tell us that 6 million people signing up for obamacare is unrelated to 6 million people losing their health insurance because of obamacare.

The Bestest: StopLurkListen: Pinner: Crimeariver will "vote" to join Russia.

Here's what's on the ballot Russia set up for Crimea:
Option A: Join Russia.
Option B: Leave Ukraine.

Yeah, that's a legitimate election right there

The referendum is illegal to begin with since any votes of secession must be taken by Ukraine as a whole, (not just the breakaway region) as per the Ukrainian constitution.. and that's just setting aside the "influence" the Russian military presence will have on the vote (and the steadfast refusal to allow UN monitors).

Let them have it.  Simply increase taxes on fuel through the pipelines by 800%.

Obviously not but you remember when Obama tried to reset the US Russian relationship by giving into Russian concerns about things like missile defense? Well you reverse course plus.

You start up Misisle Defense in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Plus:

You put an Expeditionary Air Wing in Poland on a 6 month rotation basis. (cheaper than the whole station personal over there for two to four years with their families nonsense). You do the same with an Army Armor or Mech. Brigade in the Czech Republic.

Also on rotation you put a Marine Air Ground Task Force in one of the Baltic states and form a Baltic Sea Squadron with some Arleigh Burke ABM capable Destroyers. You stick a Special Force training Team and Patriot battery in Georgia

You pay for at least part of it by further reducing forces if not eliminating those in Germany Spain Italy etc.

You could ask our NATO "allies" to share the load but since most of them would get their panties in a wad don't count on it.

Of course this means rethinking your defense cuts and instead of cutting trigger pullers and equipment you start cutting back on civil servants, DoD and Service vice, deputy, assistant and under secretaries, Flag officers and all their staffs, Stateside DoD dependent schools could be done away etc.

I certainly hope Obama comes out on top of this but Putin has been playing this game far longer than Obama. And Putin's past makes me believe that it's not going to be easy to make him back down.

Kerry is probably the best guy in the Obama cabinet to politically spar with Putin, at least experience-wise.  Obama should just let Kerry handle it at this point and I believe that's what is happening.  Obama just doesn't have the political experience that Kerry has.

That said, I'm just not sure anyone is going to convince Putin to back down, he seems really hard headed and this is a small part of a much larger plan for him.  If Putin yields to the Monday deadline I'm gonna have a whole new level of respect for John Kerry, but I don't expect him to.  Unless Putin can figure out a way to take two steps forward and only one step back.

This has nothing to do with physical toughness.  It's about standing by principals and treaty obligations.  We promised to help the Ukraine defend their borders.  I prefer we do it through diplomacy and economic sanctions because another war is exactly what we do not need.  That's the spine and balls Obama lacks.  He's going to turn his back on the Ukraine, and we will lose even more credibility.  And we don't have a whole hell of a lot of that left in the bank.  Russia has gone back to their old habits of grabbing whatever they want from their neighbors.  They will continue to so if the rest of the world only writes sternly worded letters.

I am well aware that Obama wouldn't do anything like that.  He doesn't have the spine nor the balls.

You sound like a child and should be ashamed. It's pathetic to hear a grown man talk about who's tough or not. Think a little before you say stupid things.

So despite the fact that he is trying to go at Russia using diplomacy and economic sanctions, Obama is still somehow not doing those things? Do conservatives have any logic or rational behind the stupid ass shiat they say? Are you som ...

Sure, he's using diplomacy and the threat of economic sanctions. But he has shown he's not willing to follow through.

And I'm not a conservative.

Kittypie070: Keep slurping that Poot.

[stomping feet]

WE WANT WAR!

[clapping rhythmically]

WE WANT WAR!

[altogether now!]

WE WANT WAR!

[can I hear you say it!]

WE WANT WAR!

[one more time!]

WE WANT WAR!

[when do we want it?]

RIGHT NOW!

[why?]

SO WE CAN BLAME IT ON THAT BLAH MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE!
