This really says it all: "That's $1.35 million from the main Koch political group in three months against Landrieu, compared with $27,000 for Landrieu in the last 14 years combined. It's almost like donors with billions of dollars to spend can afford to hedge their bets."

$450,000/mo over the last three months versus $160/mo over the last 14 years.

Can you imagine what the political landscape is going to look like once these PAC's have been around for 15, 20 years, assuming that nothing is done to curtail/limit their spending power?

Is someone translating articles into Tagalog then to Urdu then back to English before Fark submitters read them? The mismatch between submitter headlines and the actual contents of the article suggests that's the case. American for Prosperity isn't bashing Landrieu, the Wash My Free Bacon has an article up that says Landrieu received some money from some people in some way connected to the Kochs. Big whoop. Did you know labor unions have been known to donate to Republicans?!! Yes, it's true, notify the media.

The thing that isn't mentioned in the picture is that the successful rich person literally built that pile of money and then climbed to the top of it.  Notice that the unsuccessful poor person in the picture does not have climbing gear on.  He does not want to earn his money.  He simply wants to take it from someone who provides a benefit to society.  This is not fair.

It took me a number of months to get my first greenlight. I didn't start rolling enough to get on the list of top 100 submitters for the past year until maybe 18 months ago. Of course, there are a few Farkers who have more greenlights in the last month than I do in the last year, so I'm probably not the best resource for what the Farkmins like.

I don't like that the Kochs are spending tons of money on conservative candidates/causes and corrupting our politics, but people like Jeff Katzenberg and Tom Steyer are spending the same magnitude of money on liberal candidates/causes, and that money is corrupting our politics in the same manner.

Yes, I know they're looking for a return on their investment, but Jesus.  How much money can someone want/need?  How can you have tens of billions and say to yourself, "Gee, if I drop a billion over the next few years on politics and scummary, I might get another fewbillion out of it."

Is that not their right as capitalists to inherit money from a wealthy father?  Either he gives it to his sons--who share the same successful genes as him--or gives it to the government, who will give the money to poor people and they will spend it on Cadillacs.  What would you prefer?  A world where poor people drive around in Cadillacs they did not deserve?  Or a world where the rich build those Cadillacs?  So that's the question: Takers, or makers?

Hegel has already explained who is going to drive the Cadillacs!  Did you even read the coloring book in the back of A Critique of Reason?  The Cadillacs are irrelevant.  Cadillacs, Buicks, Corvettes, the material may change but the means is always the same.  Cadillacs are not the problem, a government that spends money on Cadillacs is the problem.

Mary Landrieu is an unrepentant whore for the oil industry and is barely a democrat. The fact that I am going to have to vote for her to keep the senate from falling into the hands of the loony bin republicans sickens me to the core.

It is not fun being forced to vote for someone you loathe simply because they are the only sane option; when abstention equals casting a vote for charging at flank speed into social and economic policy that is based in fantasy and wishful thinking instead of facts and reality. I went from being a politically involved kid who couldn't wait to exercise his right to engage in participatory democracy to feeling like a prison rape victim who wants to take a scalding hour long shower to scrape the filth off every election season.

I last voted my conscience in 2000, and I have felt this way since the 2004 election. 10 farking years.

Each time, I tell myself, "next time, I will vote my conscience, or I won't vote at all". And each election cycle, like a battered housewife, I am back again; telling myself next time things will be different.

I am so, so damned sick of this two party, right wing and wacko-right wing bullshiat. Thanks for killing my ideals, America. Assholes.

↑ This. ↑

The loonier of the GOP candidates in the past wouldn't even attempt to actually do the things they campaign on (repealing Roe v. Wade or defining Personhood as beginning at conception, banning evolution from public schools and "restoring" the Bible as Law of the Land, etc.), because they knew that if they actually accomplished these things, what would they campaign on next time for re-election? Their base has to rally behind something. The very looniest might actually try to do such things, but the saner-than-they (including the aforementioned loonier but not looniest ones) would rein them in and make sure that such things never actually succeeded.

Not so now. Now the looniest loons are in charge of the asylum. Apparently many actually believe that The Rapture™ (™ Hal Lindsey, Jack T. Chick, LeHaye, etc., as the term exists nowhere in the Bible) is really right around the corner this time, and there won't be many or even perhaps any more future elections to hold back for, so now is the time to actually do all of those things to score points with Jesus.
