Oh cool. The millionths greenlit "6,000 years lol" dinosaur headline. Not only is this joke tired, but instead of discussing cool ass motherfarking dinosaurs, half this thread will just be fedora tipping and whatnot.

Anyways. In your minds eye what is cooler? The reality of the feathered T-Rex, or the old (and in my opinion more monstrous looking) Jurassic Park version.

Ok so I've read some interesting things lately, about finding dino bones with skin, etc still on them, and then carbon dating done a few years ago that shows they are thousands of years old, not millions.  Any truth to any of this?

The non-feathered dinos of JP got an out, because their DNA was reconstituted from other animals. So the dinosaurs, as far as the novel was concerned anyway, weren't dinosaurs at all but wholly original organisms engineered by InGen, and therefore subject to copyright.

In other words, Hammond's people made creatures similar to what people thought dinosaurs looked like, by using saved dinosaur DNA and splicing it with other animals.

Discovering the first known tyrannosaur species at either pole is a major breakthrough and one that raises significant questions. Dinosaurs were giant lizards and, like all lizards, absolutely required the Sun in order to regulate their body temperatures. How they were able to survive so near the North Pole when they were cold-blooded is something that researchers have yet to figure out.

Um, what? I thought this cold-blooded notion died out* in the late 80s?

Proves climate change as well.  I think the 6,000 years ago thing probably ought to bother Jews and Muslims too, no?  I say "no?" because really don't know - don't really care enough to look it up and come back here and impress anyone by pretending I knew all along either.  But you are way out of line with the Hillary crack.  Perhaps She WAS bi, not is.  Don't be gross.

The 6,000 years old refers to the biblical timetable on when the earth was 'created'. So the Bible would again be shown as fiction. Which would burthurt Christians as well.

The 6000 years old figure has nothing to do with the Bible, and everything to do with what a medieval theologian guessed it meant.

Most Americans, because we have those people by the barrel full, can't grasp the fact that dinosaurs are NOT extinct.   We call them birds, but same damn thing.  They are what survived and birds had a fairly diverse thing going on before dinosaur numbers were thinned down to one type.  Want another crazy example of such an order? The tuatara is the only species and the only member of a whole order of reptiles.  Easily older than many dinosaurs with fossils of that order reaching back 200 million years.  To most people it looks like another lizard, but most people are clueless about biology or classification.   Crazy thing is the bird idea isn't new, but had considerable efforts against it for decades and even today.  I think there is still a group of people called "Birds are not dinosaurs"  However the farking fact is we are finding them with feathers and have before.  In addition too many new species have been discovered as fossils and many are covered in feathers, ignoring those would be stupid. Never mind that bird biology meshes right there with reptiles.  Including their reproduction, metabolic waste removal and lung sacs in dinosaurs.  Many people cling onto classic ideas of dinosaurs because what we understand about them currently demonstrates evolution very well.  To people who deny evolution this is glaring them in the face.

Many people simply don't understand  that science is like a good murder case.  It can sometimes take years to get major details and others can be missed or ignored until a new piece of evidence show up.  They see this new evidence and people changing the story, not as people correcting mistakes and adding more details.

In other words the 6000 year idiots are too far behind NOT to make fun of them, they are totally out of the loop yet use the products invented by the science they bash.  Same mockery gets leveled at the all natural dumb ass new age organic hippies too.

The horse is still very much alive, unfortunately. In the 21st century, people still believe that the Earth is only 6,000-10,000 years old, despite all the evidence showing that it's billions of years old. People also refuse to accept that evolution happens and that all species were descended from a common ancestor, as the evidence shows.

I think we need to keep beating the horse.

booklikes.com

is that T-Rex's have massive cocks and they like trembling, nubile white women.

Wow, that was a truly horrendous article.

Very cool discovery by Tykoski et al., but the 'cold-blooded lizard', and cold arctic statements underline the ignorance of the author.

We also have numerous dinosaur fossils from the Antarctic, so dinosaurs near the poles is not a new phenomenon.

In case anyone is  so inclined, here's the actual paper.

Not much to go off of, but the material is diagnostic enough. Not jealous of Tony and Ron's field sites up there. I thought the gnats and flies in Montana were bad...

I refuse to take seriously a supposedly scientific article that capitalizes "Rex" in Tyrannosaurus rex.   The first part of the name is the genus and the 2nd part is the species (which is not supposed to capitalized).
