I hate farking United. Just last weekend they made the last leg of my long international flight a severe pain in the ass.  If I had actually been booked through Air Canada like I wanted, things would have been better (shared flight).  I don't know how I missed I was booked through a United flight, but it just doubles my resolve to never fly them again.

But... this sounds reasonable.  I'm not sure how many people actually use in flight wifi, but I don't, and I sure don't need a cabin announcement waking me up or breaking into a movie to tell me how to get a refund.

I've only used it on Southwest, but it was decently fast.  I don't think I could stream a movie, but it was fast enough to Fark.

[Updated: 1:40 p.m. PDT March 11: United Airlines said flight attendants won't make announcements to the entire cabin because not every passenger in the plane will buy Wi-Fi. A spokeswoman for the carrier added United is not trying to cheat passengers out of a refund and is planning to rewrite the internal memo.]

They announce connecting flight departure gates even though not everyone is connecting.

My mom works for United and even I think they suck.

Who needs an announcement to know that if they pay for something that doesn't work they can get a refund?  I don't see the issue here.

United has in-flight WiFi? Who knew? Flew them 3 times in the past 6 months. EWR-SEA, EWR-TPA and EWR-RDU and none of the flights had WiFi. The RDU flight was a regional jet, so that's not a big deal, but when their cross country 737s don't have it, there's a problem.

As a comparison, I've flown Delta 8 times between EWR and either DTW or ATL in the same time frame and every one of those flights had WiFi.

In short, just another small reason to not fly United if I don't have to. I miss Continental.
