Why announce the charges pending? Why not give them incentive to turn themselves in? Promise ice cream, not charges.

me as well, but never really thought of parramore as "worse"... always thought it was a long strip basically down Colonial...

Crime Hills to Mercy Drive to JYP/50 to Parramore and somehow magically the old Orlando Arena area served as a buffer for downtown... until nightfall

/Ridgewood Park/Ghettobrook area represent!

I used to live on Conway and I had to travel OBT at 3 or 4 am to work.  I had a tranny run out of the bushes and try to open my passenger door.  I had another man/woman thing saunter in front of my car (at a red light) stop, turn, and stare me down for what seemed like an eternity.

I did like the drive through liquor store that had the gun rental place next door though, that was OBT's redeeming quality.

I once had to beat a crack addict on OBT. I stopped at Taco Bell in the middle of the night on south OBT by the Florida Mall and while i was at the window, just as i was paying, a crack addict walked into the space between my car and the wall. He was acting all crazy and lunging for the food in my through my window.

True story. I also used to work with the guy who tried to sell cocaine to a cop near that same Taco Bell.

Good old days.

I thought it was fascinating that Pine Hills and Parramore are both immediately adjacent to College Park, where a lot of the better-to-do folks in Orlando live.  The Walmart on Princeton between the two should be the subject of a sociology study given the mix of socio-economic classes that patronize it.

yeah in my youth, Colonial was it.

Where McNamara Pontiac is/was next to the railroad tracks and across the way there was a Wendy's for the LONGEST time ever. on the two south corners were sOBT neighborhoods, northwest corner was part of the Pine Hills/Fairvilla section, northeast corner was considered College Park

I have no idea the makeup now; i've only been back to Orlando less than a handful of times since I returned to FL (Tampa region is by far better, IMO)

I'll be going over there next month to visit my parents when they come down on vacation however... ,maybe I'll check it out for nostalgia's sake

/then again if i ride over on the motorcycle, maybe i wont...

as a matter of fact, that guy who said the comment about Parliamente House above is spot on... That is just south of the intersection I am talking about.

In case anyone is curious, I was born at ORMC in '84, lived in Pine Hills until '98 when my pops got a job with now defunct Circuit City and we moved kit & caboodle to Richmond...

Agree 110%.  Tampa is a lot more fun than Orlando.  I drive around it when going back to visit the parents.

Some things never change.

It really doesn't matter where on OBT you are, strangeness happens.  It was that way in 1960's when I was a kid and it was closet boys trolling for sailors and airmen.

When the light changed, the woman drove away but the man followed her up the block to the next light in the slow-moving, rush-hour traffic.

"Stop staring at me!  Stop staring at me!!  Stop- hey, where you going?  Get back here and stop staring at me!!"

I was just about to say the same thing--sounds like a drunk tranny wandered away from P House.

/For non-Orlando natives, P House is the gay bar/resort near the streets in question

I used to have to drive down OBT (I would get on at 528 and head north to the office) occasionally when I was in the trades.  Usually around 5 am, it was amusing seeing all the hookers lined up at the bus stops waiting to go home.

Lived in Orlando for seven years and TBH the only place that didn't feel safe was when I lived in Pegasus landings, IIRC two pizza guys got shot shortly before I moved out.

Spent most of my time there living off 408 and Dean, or just off 436 a little south of Curry Ford - so I was never really in a bad area.

This non-Orlando native found this out the hard way when on vacation and my friend and I were out bar hopping. I could tell something was up with the place when we pulled up, but he insisted on going in. I'm not the least bit homophobic, but it seems he is. I still break his stones about it.

"Police are offering to hire a top-rated chef to cook the suspects favorite meal, along with wine service, and are planning on taking the suspect for a nice walk in the park and maybe stop for some ice cream before going back to the suspects place for a cozy evening curled up on the couch with a good movie."
