iron_city_ap: Wait, you can get a beer for $4 at an arena !?

This right here. 20oz beers are $10 and $11 at St. Louis Blues games.

I live in Boise, and watching the outrage over this has been hysterical. While things like the AG-GAG bill have been passed at the same time (a law preventing whistleblowers from video taping animal abuse at farms or meat plants), the refusal whole add the 4 words idaho thing (which is on-going), and the recent passing of a law that allows concealed weapons on college campuses, this silly beer issue has DOMINATED the news and attention of the locals.

Idaho, always got our priorities out of whack.

Didn't someone mention already they have different beef sizes between domestic and micros and that they were comparing the wrong larges to the wrong smalls?

Eek, beer sizes heh :P

doglover: Danger Mouse: I've seen this in bars and resturants  around town.  Most notabley it's  in Mexican resturants.  My wife had ordered a jumbo margaritta. It seemed HUGE. However the waitress left an empty normal size margarita glass on our table.  I decided to have some and poured the jumbo margarita into the empty, normal sized glass. To our surprise, the entire jumbo magarita  barely filled the normal sized glass. I tossed in some ice and it was clear the only difference in the two sizes was the amount of ice.

We also noticed this at another upscale mexican resturant that features premium margaritas which, if you want you can order a pitcher of margarittas. I noticed the margarita glasses that came with the pitcher were smaller than the standard glasses.  Once again, we took a normal sized margarita glass and poured from the pitcher and discovered the pitcher actually held 2.5 normal sized margaritas, but cost the price of 3.5 margarittas. If you used the smaller glasses you would pour just over 4 glasses thinking you got a slight break.

You fail at drinking margaritas if you could do this math.

Or they fail at making them. Clearly not enough booze.

I have never understood the psyche of people who NEED to have a beer at a sporting event.  Friends who rarely drink even succumb to this urge, I don't understand it.  Are you just bored?

I guess you could say these beers are... Less Filling.

Well, you know conservatives, they want to make sure you don't feel guilty about the meat you eat, but they don't want you to go to school and leave your penis enhancer at home. I am sure next thing will be making sure that the drinking water that has been added some lovely chemicals to it by the fracking company, will have no worries about it from customers as the Idaho AG will probably find a way to block lawsuits in case anyone complains about health problems.

Bob_Laublaw: I was just at a bar that featured a 16 OZ Pint and a 20 OZ Pint. That must be fun to see when you're OCD.

Well, they ARE both technically "pints".

You're forgetting how they want to allow doctors/police/firefighters/paramedics to be able to deny their services to someone based on the fact they're gay. All in the name of "protecting freedom of religion."

But don't worry, we got that beer situation resolved. So everything here is cool.

KidKorporate: yukichigai: Plush_Cthulhu: Heh, CenturyLink Field here in Seattle (Seahawks) had the same issue a few years ago.

So they can show a pattern of deliberate misrepresentation even.  Lovely.  That'll make the lawsuit go a lot smoother.

Related: I'd like to see a law that requires vendors to use the actual capacity in ounces as the name of the size you purchase.  No "large" and "small", they can only call it "16oz" and "20oz".  Not just for sports arenas either; amusement parks, carnivals, concert venues, outdoor markets... plenty of areas that pull the same crap.

So, Starbucks will actually be OK with the Venti, then?

Venti size is 24oz for many drinks.

That, plus maybe the fact that it will cost you at least $100 just to step into the stadium.

Gothnet: This is why we in the UK have the weights and measures act. You can only sell beer in 1/3, 1/2 or full pints. You can only sell spirits in multiples of 25ml. You must not serve short measures.

Booze. It's serious business.

Why such small beers?

Um because watching sports and drinking beer go hand in hand?  Never heard of a sitcom bar, but there are thousands of sports bars.  It's not like coach is going to put me in.  May as well have a beer and enjoy the game.

Also, drinking beer in the sun at a baseball game (preferably at Wrigley) is pretty much the best thing ever.

Chick-fil-a fries are nearly the same. There is virtually no difference between a small and large waffle fries.

is it the same beer or is it $4 for a small miller lite versus $7 for a large anchor steam or something?

5 star chef of tv dinners: Bob Falfa: How long had this been going on? It should have taken fans about 1 beer to notice this.

Can't figure it out on one beer.  You need at least two.  You gotta look at it this way.  First you order the small beer and drink it and then later you order a large beer and drink that.  That's when you first notice that the small and large maybe had the same about of beer but you aren't sure.  So you decide to order another large and small beer to test that theory.  You drink those but you aren't sure yet so you decide to increase your control group.  You down a couple more large and small beers to test it out and then you rip off your shirt and yell at the opposing teams goalie that their a biatch and you could take them in a one on one.  Repeat process each game and soon you realize why it took so long.

This^^

Assuming you're American, our pints are 25% larger than yours anyway, so it's not that small. A half pint would be roughly 10oz if I have my US units right, and the only time that it's acceptable to buy a 1/3 pint is if you're at a beer festival and you need to try them *all* before you fall over in a drunken heap.

This is something that happens everyday in nearly every bar across America.  The glasses look like they are different sizes but they aren't.  Beer glasses and mugs are the easiest ones to pass off to the unsuspecting patron.  No one looks at the glass thickness, they look at the height and width of the opening.  The same thing happens with the different cocktail glasses.  They can be bought with the same capacity but look completely different and they appear you get more.

/drinking outside the home is a scam
//don't do it; unless it's free
///3's  yeah!
