Let that marinate a second.

Jerry Brown is constitutionally ineligible to run  for a 4th term as governor of California but that's not stopping him.

I wish Virginia's constitution allowed more than one term

but no more than two..

Actually, the one term thing is pretty good come to think about it..

Huh. The first time I've thought Arizona was slightly less derpy than Texas.

/most of the time they're slightly ahead
//no term limits for Govs in Texas is bullshiat

Arizona's first governor served seven terms between 1912 and The Depression, so the law was changed. A lot of Arizonans don't even know that the pyramid in Papago Park is his tomb.

They do allow two, just not consecutively.  And I like it that way.  It keeps the governor from worrying about re-election and instead worrying about what he/she can conceivably get done in four years.

Brewer had said there is "ambiguity" in the Constitution, saying she does not read it as barring her from serving 21/4 terms

5.25 terms?

that's right, I forgot about that bit.. most ex govs prefer to stay that way however, and most folks use the governership as a spring board to the senate or congress. which I'm sure is the entire point of current new guy, and was the hope of the last guy till he farked it all up with the free shiat scandal.

Its my personal observation that VA doesn't have any decent Guvs that are not under six feet tall. And I have met all of them and given tours of the Brewery over the past 15 years.

new guy is over six feet, gave him a tour of the place on his previous campaign, and found the entire situation like the ruby rod introduction scene in the fifth element, hangers on kissing his ass and everything. found him rather swarmy, not my first choice, but at least he wasn't the other guy...

California law is "Governors are elected by popular ballot and serve terms of four years, with a limit of two terms," there nothing about "consecutive" in the law.  Brown's argument was the term limit law passed after he was elected to his second term and wasn't retroactive.

Actually that's not surprising coming from ol' Jer; he's always had a kind of loose interpretation of laws as they apply to him

/but there doesn't seem to be anyone running against him that would be preferable at this point, either

A sheriff is not a state executive officer, legislator, or judge, and is not subject to term limits for that reason.

Well, that's what hanging out with Joe Arpaio will do to you. Any media where worth his salt will tell you: No matter how banal the announcement, making it into a press event will guarantee that the rubes will remember you when you need it most.

I'm actually quite surprised that Joe hasn't started giving daily press briefings on the size, consistency and color of his morning bowel movements.

Not sure why Skeletor would need to "run" for office anyway. Once she kicks He-man's ass who will be there to stop her from world domination?
