I stopped liking it before the other people stopped liking it when they realized other people liked it - I'm more into pre-piloted shows now.

I tried watching it once. Made it about 10 minutes before slipping into a blissful coma.

I only like shows when they're being pitched. Storyboards are SO last century. And don't even get me started on cameras. Ugh!

Yeah---seems like Archer is in line to be the next show Fark hates on.  I think only shows that are canceled after 2-3 seasons remain popular here (Arrested Development, Firefly)

Almost all studio audience laughter is "sweetened" with pre-recorded stuff. Makes it less crucial to mike the audience properly, and allows the director to maintain the rhythm they want for the scene. (And, of course, it plows over any jokes that just don't land with the audience.)

I enjoyed the first season or two.

But, I'd agree that when they all started getting girlfriends, it lost me.

I can see why people still like it. But it got old quick and I can only imagine what they'll have to milk for the next 3 seasons.

But, kudos to the actors. Between that and syndication, they're set in all the "Magic: The Gathering" Cards they can get their hands on.

Studio audience and laugh track are not mutually exclusive.

I don't know about that. The entire genre shift this season kinda renewed it. If they kept the spy storyline going it would definitely be in the hate category now.

2014-03-12 05:43:57 PM
Three more seasons? I honestly thought they were going to button it up after about two more (or at least I'm sure viewership will start to decline seriously by then).

What else interesting can they do with the show at this point? I don't think the two "normal" couples getting married, Sheldon finally discovering what his penis is for aside from evacuation, and Raj becoming the new Charlie Sheen will be interesting enough to carry the show (unless Raj does indeed go full Sheen).

3 more seasons?  How much further they going to take the joke?

2014-03-12 05:57:11 PM
Ugh, 3 more years?

The first couple of years were, if not great then at least enjoyable.  Then, as mentioned, once most everyone started getting laid on a somewhat regular basis it lost it's nerdy edge.  The shows that I've seen recently though are just painful in their unfunniness.  I honestly thought that they were going to wrap things up at the end of this season because there just wasn't a point to it.  Hollywood needs to understand that quite often it is much better to leave people wanting more than to try to wring every last dollar/joke out of what once was a good show (2.5 Men is a good example of that kind of disaster being dragged out).

2014-03-12 05:57:25 PM
It's funny for what it is, which is inoffensive background noise for people while they're eating dinner.

Plus, it gets engineers and physics majors to go full Asbergers about how it's nerd blackface, so that's always fun.

Penny and Raj are terrific characters.  Every single other regular character on the show is unwatchably obnoxious.
It isn't 'nerd blackface', it's 'nerd Seinfeld'.  And Seinfeld sucked.

It can't be because shows that go past 3 seasons tend to wear out in the script department. It's not possible. Writers never get tired or run out of ideas, and are forced to go on under executive pressure to keep a cash cow alive. It's just not possible.

Maybe because a good show killed in its prime leaves a legacy of being a good show (and a bit of bittersweet nostalgia), while formerly good shows that get pimped out for a decade of mediocrity overwhelm your good memories with crap?

I don't see how this is so complicated. Recognizing when the quality of something good starts to go down doesn't make you a hipster or a hater. It means that you're paying attention to more than just the packaging.

/remember when fark used to be good?
//just kidding, fark was never good

It's simultaneously "live" and dead.

But it looks like one of those series kept alive for the sponsors and only because it has good ratings.  The Korean War would've lasted as long as M*A*S*H if it had been profitable.

Maybe the sitcom is falling out of fashion in general?  Plus there are so many really excellent hour long dramas to choose from now.

I'm not so sure. This season has had its moments, and is worth watching, but I don't think it's as solid as previous seasons.

For cartoons with crude humor which touches on taboo, Rick and Morty is the new hotness.

Every time I ever watched that show I felt like I was watching some meatballs repeating lines of text that were put together by allowing a computer to combine random parts of speech. The sentences are all technically correct, but in combination mean nothing as whole. And they certainly contain no discernible humor. I have literally never once even cracked a smile at that show. Not because it angers me or even because I dislike it for any particular reason, I just feel like they completely forgot to write any jokes every time I tried to watch it.

It was always a very odd experience for me so I gave up trying to understand why everybody likes it so much and went back to just watching my own shows instead.

cto
Stand up comedy would be awkward if you removed the laughter from the show.  Granted, that's a slightly more impromptu setting, but in both cases, more or less, the performers are going off a script.  I really don't see how this is the indictment people think it is.  Time is set aside after punchline for laughter to preclude laughter from interfering with following dialogue.  Whether it's canned laughter or live audience laughter, removing the track while the performers wait for the laughter to stop is going to make the scene awkward either way.

Oh, I'm not implying that there's less screwing in game companies today, just that the industry is a lot less nerdy now, per capita.

I've worked with some guys who make Sheldon look normal ...
