When Gohmert gives the single most accurate response to 'Two Ferns' the end times are near.

I agree.  Obama is a terrible actor.  The whole point of the thing was to pimp the ACA to young people.  Since it went viral, that's pretty much mission accomplished.

The tough part comes when you have to get them to fork over that cash, especially if they figure out they are the unfortunate losers in the model.

Ill take cash or a certified check.

If they aren't always 100% negative then they are shunned because they aren't holding the line.

It's the same thinking they use when anyone from what they consider the left says anything outrageous they believe ALL "liberals" believe the statement and it represents everyone on the left

how are they the "unfortunate losers in the model?"

They have to pay money for services that they will never use. These are services that are only used by older people, and they are fleecing the young out of their money. Come on, everyone knows that young people never get into any car accidents, get pregnant (or STDs), tear knee ligaments playing sports, break bones after slipping and falling on ice, be the one unlucky soul out of a hundred thousand that gets cancer at a young age, or any other event that causes severe damage to the human body. And these young people also never, and I mean never, get old themselves, so they will always be paying for others. What suckers we, I mean they, are.

Young people can stayon their parents' plan until age 26. Young people are failing to sign up in droves. The people who have signed up aren't paying their premiums.

Right because the whole getting on their parents plan for cheap or getting subsidized insurance if they don't make a lot will be a huge rip off for them.

"Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed."

I thought it worked by charging rated tied to risk, so young and healthy people, pay less, not more.

The trick here is that most young people won't use their insurance enough to justify their premiums.  In the past, it was a gamble if you didn't have insurance.  You weren't likely to need it, but you also didn't have the option of signing up the minute you did.  Now that you DO have that option, the penalty for not signing up needs to be in line with what you'd pay if you had signed up.  The penalties aren't there yet, so it's still cheaper to take the gamble, especially since you can sign up if you actually need it.

It's no secret that young people have to sign up to cover the expenses of older people - as you pointed out, that's how insurance works.  But as was also accurately pointed out, young people are paying for services they won't use to cover older people who will use more services than they are paying for.

Is that why people all pay the same insurance through employee owned insurance even if they are 100yo or 18? And this was BEFORE Obamacare!

No it doesn't always work that way it depend on the pool for the insurance.

Hummm. Image seems a little crowbared. Its a fact that people who by definition are"young and healthy" must enroll and pay for insurance to offset older sicker enrollees. I for one am a big fan of all types of insurance and am glad say for example I have never had to claim against my homeowners because that means I havent been robbed or some kid hasnt broken his leg on my driveway. So in a very real way I have "lost" all those years of premiums. Premiums I didnt pay in my youth because it didnt make sense.

The awkwardness is the joke, but it's always so obviously contrived that I don't find it funny. There were a few cute moments in this one, but there were several missed opportunities where things could have been much, much funnier.

Yeah, that's pretty much my reaction, too.

Gohmert saying something that indicates some actual grasp of reality is far more awkward and amusingly incongruous than any BTF skit ever.
