On the other hand, speaking as a gun nut, I find it fascinating that we've gone from "you're batsh*t paranoid if you think someone's coming to take your gun" to the Connecticut scenario, all in a couple of years.

So if you were out of the country for a couple of years while all this was happening, and just got back, there's no way to file the paperwork. So your only option is to turn in your "assault" guns which are probably worth some serious coin, or live as a felon.

Also, in closing, let me offer my humble opinion that gun nuts are not the crowd that you want discovering the "in for a penny" philosophy of life.

No, there are lots of sane gun owners. However, anyone who wants to put gun registration on the same level as the holocaust is unbalanced with a debatable hold on reality.

And maybe if you stopped assuming that anyone who sees gun regulation as something that can be part of the solution is a gun grabbing libtard, the rest of us would stop treating you like shiat sipping retards.

A gun registration will make it easy for the government (that most  understandably don't trust in the first place) to enforce anyconfiscatory measures.  It is not about the registry itself, but what power it gives to those that we really don't trust.

As such, most will continue to push back on any proposal to enact such a registry.

No. Not even a little. The Nazi's had overwhelming public support in Germany, and the Jews were a small minority compared to the forces oppressing them. Guns wouldn't have changed anything.

They just would have killed them in the Ghettos instead of camps.

And acting like this only makes your side look shady, like you have something to hide or you're doing something bad. It makes those of us with no horse in this not trust your side.

Instituting a forced, mandatory registry has in every single case in the USA and in various other countries has shown, time and time again, that whenever such a measure is put into place confiscation is not that far behind.  Look at CT for a prime example of this.  Also the registration of the SKS rifles in CA years back.

You aren't going to have an open "guns are now banned, turn them in" like the liberals like to say we claim (and we don't) will happen.  Instead it's going to be what we see in CT; guns banned for "evil" features that have no bearing on the actual operation of the gun itself.  Or if you're sick of me saying CT, how about NY that tried to criminalize 10 round magazines and force people to go to 7?  What's next, say you can only do 5 rounds, then 3, then 1?

IF these laws are suppose to make US all safer by reducing/banning guns for a 'safe and secure' society, then why do these bans not apply to law enforcement?

2014-03-12 01:45:24 PM

Publikwerks: Meanwhile, I bet you're a registered member of the NRA

Nope

I always love that people don't realize that if the government wanted a list of people who own guns, it could get one pretty easily.

Getting a list of folks that might own guns is fine as plausible deniability is still an option and the government would still bear the burden of proof in this respect.  Maintaining a database where it is required that every gun be registered is not going to fly.
