Now I kind of want to try a little Marmite on actual pizza.

Marmite.

Good lord.

The endtimes are near.

Ew. Dear god. I lived in Australia for a while, and Marmite is farking vile. To put it in a pizza is a crime against god.

When I first read the headline, I thought it said "marmot", which made me think that someone had wound up with a squirrel pizza.

I've never heard of Marmite, so I'll continue to think of squirrel-stuffed pizza.

This is marmite though not Vegemite. They taste and smell quite different.

Its like comparing bud light to champagne.

Both are alcohol... but one is crap and the other is good.

The trick to liking Marmite is to spread it as thinly and as sparingly onto toast as possible. It adds a savoury taste which is great with a cup of tea.  If you slather it on it tastes utterly revolting. I suspect people who label it vile or revolting went the second route.

I'm  not sure how it would work in a stuffed crust pizza but I suppose a very sparing hint of marmite in melted cheese might be okay. I think worcestershire sauce would work better though - a dash of that in cheese or tomato sauce would be awesome the way that Welsh rarebit is.

Kind of reminds me of mayonnaise then. It's good when used sparingly, but it can be gross if you overdo it.

Pizza needs just three things on the crust: cheese, tomato sauce and a dead animal or two.

Oh ffs my English mum used to try and shove that shiat down me and my brother's throats when we were wee lads.
Recently she tried to introduce it to the grandkids.
I played along and slathered a bunch on a piece of toast and gobbled it down and tried to pretend it was as tasty as Nutella.
That lasted for about 30 seconds before I made my best trollface impression and almost had to make a chunder run to the loo.

2014-03-11 07:05:38 PM
It actually sounds quite good - melted mozzarella with a thin layer of Marmite. If you slather it on like Nutella it WILL taste vile, it's not intended to be eaten like that.

I think the people who are going "Marmite's good, but on pizza?  What are they thinking?" are missing the point that it's for the crust... the crispy chewy bit at the edge that doesn't get any cheese or sauce or other toppings.

I think a wee bit of marmite would be good on a nice toothy, gluteny pizza crust.

I would have thought marmite got a better reception here on fark, being made from beer trub and all.

Personally I think it is great stuff.

Lightly butter the toast, apply ~1tsp marmite, a slice of smoked provolone, back in the toaster oven long enough to melt the cheese...

Or on german rye, with garlic butter, then it's like multicultural and such.

But I really like salty savory food stuffs, anchovies among them...

De gustibus non est disputandum and all

Goddamnit Pizza Hut, stop filling your crusts with random bullshiat. You might make a few sales for any new item but your chain isn't stagnating because of the lack of gimmicky bullshiat. People would like to pay less than $50 for a couple pizzas and some breadsticks. Your pizzas are good, if you get a regular pizza, but do they have to be that greasy?

Crust should not be inherently greasy - grease is not a crust ingredient!
