(The Dish)   Five years in, with his approval rating tanking and the press circling like sharks, you'd think that the "Obama Era" would be over. You'd be wrong, however   (dish.andrewsullivan.com) divider line 24

Going from record-highs (91% IIRC) to record-lows (26% IIRC) in just a shade over 5 years is "tanking" (or "abject failure").

Going from mid-60s to mid-40s is called "governing". Much like the physics of energy, "potential approval" is usually going to be higher than "observed approval" - Inauguration Obama was many things to all people, but then he had to go and collapse the waveform into observable reality.

Since Obama took office:

S&P up 140%
Unemployment rate down from peak of over 10% to under 7% (Stimulus)
Out of one war, out of both wars by end of year
Bin Laden dead
Qaddafi dead
Less dependence on foreign oil
Housing has mostly recovered
People with preexisting conditions have access to health insurance
Uninsured rate has dropped
Auto industry recovering
Boosted fuel efficiency standards
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
Appointed two women to the Supreme Court, including the first Latino
Military budget declining
Invested in renewable energy

Improved international relationships
Dodd-Frank legislation under his watch (OK it's not a major win against Wall Street, but better than nothing)
Marijuana is quasi-legal in Colorado despite no Congressional attempts to reschedule it
Obesity rate has dropped over 40% for 2-5 year olds and among others has stabilized
Deficits dropping like a rock (projected 680 billion this year from 1.1 trillion last year).

Yeah, what a total failure of a president.

Is there stuff left? Yes, but Jesus man WTF do you want?

Inequality is still a fundamental issue. It has not improved. We didn't go after the Wall Street guys who made off with our money. Education still remains problematic, if a solvable one. There's still some very questionable stuff going on in our intelligence networks. The War on Drugs has not ended, just gone into wait and see mode. Citizens United was a massive blow to the electorate. The NDAA he signed was way too broad in scope about its ability to indefinitely detain US citizens without due process. Immigration reform remains a problem.

Most of the stuff left is crap he doesn't have any ability to enact or change because of Congress or the courts. I mean Congress is still hungup on the ACA.

Anyway, I don't care how you measure it, in my perspective the guy has done an outstanding job these five years. Not perfect, but cmon man WTF does anyone know about walking about in the President's shoes, dealing with a Congress hell bent on destroying him and a group of billionaires with an eye on funding crazies in local, state, and federal elections.

It's amazing how Obama's approval ratings have been tanking for years now, but still remain the same.

Mark my words, Ladies and Gents. In 2016, the media SH*THEADS are going to use the phrase "Obama Fatigue" in order to describe what they want you to believe is the electorate's desire for a fresh start (translation: VOTE REPUBLICAN). They whipped out that brainf*ck of a lie during the 2000 election by talking about "Clinton Fatigue" as the reason why Al Gore's chances aren't good.

They'll also feed you that tired old "close horse race" catchphrase like they did in 2012, trying to keep you biting your nails throughout the season, even though it's was going to be a total landslide for Obama known as far back as that Spring.

Watch it happen, and remember what I told you back in 2014 that they are going to pull that sh*t.

/The Mainstream Media is NOT your friend or mine.

vernonFL: Im a big fan of Andrew Sullivan.

He's a good writer, but he's myopic and petty and often just stupid. He's narcissistic, where if a policy issue is personally important to him, he'll go to the mat on it, but if its not, he'll mock and sneer at people who have passion for it. He's not very pleasant.

Animatronik: If someone had suggested to me in 2009 that by 2014, after the worst recession since the 1930s and after the huge debt pile-up in the Bush years that the US would be growing steadily, gaining energy independence, and cutting its deficit deeply"

Yes folks in one fell swoop this idiot sings Obama's praises while crediting the recovery to things that Republicans pushed for over the objections of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, while this trio did everything they could to make the deficit catastrophically worse, which this guy attacks Bush for.

Welcome to Dummycrat central where nobody wears shoes with laces because they forgot how to tie them.

Four years ago, Liberals said that not only would the recovery happen, but that Republicans would try to take credit for it.  Fark Independents, of course, angrily denied it.

And no, the Republicans get zero credit for this.

Personally I don't think he stands a chance

He's never getting my vote again.

I have severe doubts he'll even run in 2016.

Wow, that bad is it?

I've heard a rumour that it's gotten so bad that Hillary is planning to oust him.
