Isitoveryet: I am a chronic nail biter, it's as if my hand and mouth are doing it without the knowledge of my noggin.
it is embarrassing, the condition of my nails and a disgusting habit. like the guy in TFA, i too have managed to stop for short periods of time but all it takes is that one little imperfection and i instantly start tearing at them layer by layer then you have to even them all out and that leads to nubs.

can't even pick a dime up off a hard surface :(

I used to be that way, but I forced myself to paint them on a regular basis for several months.  Once I stopped tearing them up, they got thicker and it was no longer comfortable to chew them.  However, I've transferred the habit to my cuticles, which I will pick at if there's even a small amount of dead skin.  I usually stop before they bleed...usually.

Funny thing is that I remember the day I started.  I was 6 and my grandmother accidentally scratched me trying to tickle me.  She had very long nails and I started biting them, swearing I'd never let mine get that long.
