I don't want to make the same mistake we all made last year and count Arsenal out already. But Bayern is even better this year (hard to believe) and I just don't see them coming back from a 2-0 home loss. Should be an interesting match though, I think Arsenal are going to come out strong. Bayern are really bad at getting their energy straight away, they like a slow build up, so this usually takes them for surprise. Wolfsburg caught them napping just like this last week in the Budesliga.

Atletico and Madrid I'd say is anyone's game, but I'll leave that one up for anyone who's been following them a bit closer. Madrid has only 1 away goal over them.

City vs Barcelona, same situation as Arsenal, I'd say the odds are against them but I wouldn't count City out yet.

Paris vs Bayer Leverkusen, after a 4 goal loss at home, Bayer are done, they've been plague by losses as of late (finally ending their losing streak in the Bundesliga with a draw this week), they usually tumble around this time of the season, but usually not this badly... They're done.

Thing is Bayern's form in the league may be hurting them in Europe; you'd think they'd have their first choice rested and ready.

Last season they kept a few guys primarily for European matches, they've got enough stars to really do it too. I think Ribbery will be back from his ass-injury, so that will be nice. With the arsenal goal keeper still suspended it will make things interesting...

Sorry, games start at 3:45 ET it seems. Daylights savings screwed me up, I was thinking it was 2:45.

Schalke plays next week, not this week.

Oh, I'm sure the empty field Real Madrid would otherwise take this week would provide a stiffer defense against Ronaldo & Bale than Schalke players actually would

I've got Bayern Munich/Arsenal on FS1, Atletico Madrid/AC Milan on FS2, Brewers/White Sox spring training on FSN, and 'The Soccer Gods' on Fusion, which is surprisingly entertaining.

I think the penalty for forfeiting a match in the Champions League is a 3-0 loss, so technically, Madrid doesn't even need to show up for the second leg and they will still progress.

That would be farking hilarious if that ever happened. Pretty sure that UEFA would bring down the banhammer if anyone ever even considered it.

Bayern's line-up, no major surprises. 1 Neuer - 4 Dante, 6 Thiago, 7 Ribéry, 8 Martínez, 9 Mandzukić, 10 Robben, 19 Götze, 21 Lahm (K), 27 Alaba, 31 Schweinsteiger. I'm guessing Mueller will be subbed in if they need him later on, but if not he's getting some rest.

Hahah, that would be pretty farking funny, but yeah, I think it would probably end up as a disqualification.

Interesting lineup. Since Dante and Alaba are the only other defenders in the line-up, I guess that means Martinez will be CB and Lahm will be RB, which means Thiago or Schweinsteiger will be the holding midfielder. I thought Guardiola tried that earlier this season without much success, which is why Lahm was moved into that position.

My guess was that he was going for an insta-kill. Early goal. Which is usually against Bayern's and Guardiola's style, but it'll make it a much easier match if they can pull it off.

Also Arsenal are going to be parking the bus any time Bayern makes it into that half. More people in the box will aid their chances of getting around that.

Enough about Ramos' shooting prowess. Real's not playing today.

BeIn actually cut into their BAY-ARS coverage to play footage of the Costa goal. I haven't seen that in so many years.

Arsenal's going to tire themselves out. They're chasing the ball desperately.

Princip's Sandwich: Dante got a yellow for taking down the Ox.

Was going to make a Golden Ox/Jehovah reference, but it sounded much better in my head so I tanked it. You're welcome.

After my bad luck the last few weeks of having the team I was cheering FOR being scored against moments later, I'm going to be rooting very quietly. I'm not expecting a win today, but anything positive will be welcomed.

Your Barcelona message was apparently on a delay. They beat Levante that week, then proceeded to lose against relegation-threatened Valladolid.

Come on Bayern guy, that was barely a swat. No need to pretend you got clocked.

They don't have a choice. They've got to get that ball and find a goal. Quite a tall order against this Bayern team.

It worked!

I'm noticing:

*Arsenal's shirt sponsor is Emirates.
*Atletico Madrid's shirt sponsor is Azerbaijan.

Boy, are we glad we're not watching Al-Ain vs. Neftchi Baku, huh.

Arsenal saved by the offside. They're living dangerously.

He shouldn't be doing it period, but point taken. He's looking loose, but a bit dangerous. Arsenal can't afford to go down to 10 men two games in a row.

ATLETICO OFF A DEFLECTION! 3-1!

2014-03-11 04:26:38 PM
Free kick for  Alex Morgan Jameson Oxlade-Chamberlin (I'm guessing he's got more names, at least the commentators keep using most of his full name, so I'm still waiting for a few middle names in there) after he gives Lahm a piggy back ride...

They've done the job of not embarrassing the EPL. That's about it.

BeIn Sport blasting Ozil for not defending again. Pretty evident when you see the Dashing Gentleman running around, while Ozil is jogging like the fat girl in gym class.

Does anybody see this ending up as anything other than a Bayern win? Possibly with a couple more goals as Arsenal have to start pressing in the second half?

I'm just hoping for a spectacular goal. I don't care who scores it. The match has been a lot of Bayern possession and good Arsenal defense.
