Build some kind of signal to announce to punters that they've arrived in Gotham.

Maybe the Joker is stealing the signs so Batman can't find his way back to Gotham. It's a brilliant plan, when you think about it.

I suggest mining the sign. That will take care of having to prosecute the thief as well. And make sure it's a real killer, don't want the culprit to just be a burden on the medical system.

Set up a booth next to the road sides and sell them. The road sign can be written off as part of your advertising costs.

Get your genuine authentic Gotham City signs here!

Maybe you could have a guy in a Bat Man costume autographing the road signs for $25 extra.

Seriously, though, the increased tourism traffic must pay for the value of the signs and then some, right?

/probably not, signmaking is a HUGE racket

Gotham, which shares its name with the comic book superhero's home city, has had its sign stolen three times in four years.

We had the same problem when I lived in Stoner's Ford, Illinois. We just changed the name to Shiatstain Corners.

IIRC, Gotham was famous long before The Bat Man for its cunning fools, and the Three Wisemen of Gotham (well worth a look-see).

Who's running the damned place now?

upload.wikimedia.org

Come on people! Where is that ancient Gotham spirit and wit?

Three wise men of Gotham,
They went to sea in a bowl,
And if the bowl had been stronger
My song had been longer.

This nursery rhyme was a type of the begging songs or tales used when you were expected to sing or tell a tale to earn yourself a beer or your supper. Jokes on the people who pay. You might get a very short song or short story for a short beer.

The easy solution is to change the name of the place.  Something less conspicuous, like Metropolis.

Ground Hog's Landing had its sign stolen at least once because the guys on the first floor of my university residence were called the Ground Hogs. College boys have been collecting odd signs since the 1940s. I saw it online last week or thereabouts in a photographic spread for  Life magazine dating to the 1940s.

In fairness, subby, they might get their sign back at the cost of a few destroyed buildings and high-speed chases through the village proper...

Hey dipsh*ts- hows about you replace the sign and attach it with theft-proof bolts and perhaps a chain.  Meanwhile, make a few hundred more and sell them in the local shop.

This ain't rocket surgery.
