stonelotus: raise your hand if you've ever peed in the ocean. now raise your hand if you've ever peed on a cow.fark your nasty seafood.
That Guy Jeff: Rapmaster2000: That Guy Jeff: I will, thank you. Mmmm. I wondering if the slavery is what makes them taste so good? Oh well, who cares. I think I'll get sushi for dinner now.LOL, Asian shrimp tastes terrible. You have bad taste.Oh, this will be good. Please, enlighten me as to what "asian shrimp" is.
Abe Vigoda's Ghost: Almost all of the victims are smuggled from destitute villages in Myanmar...It will always be Burma to me.
hitlersbrain: If I could make one change to human DNA it would be to make downtrodden people instinctively band together and destroy the people oppressing them.
hitlersbrain: FLMountainMan: ajgeek: Slavery; because without it, Capitalism would never work.As opposed to communism? C'mon, think these things through a little more. You don't really know what Communism is... do you? (Hint: None of the following countries were ever Communist: Soviet Union, China, N. Korea).
FLMountainMan: That article was likely typed on a computer made by slaves.
DROxINxTHExWIND: macadamnut: [i512.photobucket.com image 500x496]At the point where the employee can negtotiate a fair market price for his labor it is no longer slavery./Glad I could help
R.A.Danny: snocone: R.A.Danny: Nabb1: stonelotus: raise your hand if you've ever peed in the ocean. now raise your hand if you've ever peed on a cow.fark your nasty seafood.Do cows not shiat and piss in the very pastures they roam and eat grass?Absolutely every bit of non-solar energy that we consume has been shiat in one form or another in the past. There are no plants without shiat. There is no food without shiat. Shiat is the most important thing we produce.Shiat run Bartertown! This planet runs like Bartertown.
theflatline: Nabb1: theflatline: CruJones: crawfishAh, last time I checked crawfish were fresh water creatures raised in ponds inland.Yes, they are, and thanks to numerous spells of unusually cold weather down here, those little mudbugs are quite expensive this year.I worked crawfishing in Thibodaux in college for a few weeks back in 91, fark all that noise, I would rather be beat with whips rowing a slave ship.Back breaking labor avoiding gators and snakes but the plus side our bosses idea of a bonus program was "you can keep all the frogs you can catch".I went back to bartending.
Nabb1: what_now: Nabb1: what_now: I only buy shrimp from the Gulf Coast, so.. not quite slaves.Got over your worries about BP oil-infused shrimp finally? Good. I thought I was going to have to get a friend of mine from Wildlife and Fisheries to beat you with a wet noodle. Besides, imported shrimp are farmed in very specious conditions, hardly regulated, and seldom tested for contaminants. Many shrimp operations have them growing in waters tainted by chemicals and raw sewage. Not to mention they often have an unpleasant heavy iodine taste to them. So, between slave labor, poop, toxic chemicals, and bad taste, there's no reason to eat imported shrimp. It took a while for me to eat any shrimp, honestly. I'm from New England- I'm pretty picky about my seafood. I just found out about the Thai shrimp situation a few months ago, but I generally refuse to eat any seafood that wasn't swimming relatively close to me.For instance, I will never eat (salt water) fish in the Midwest. There's just no need.Oysters ship surprisingly well as long as they stay on ice.
Evil Mackerel: hitlersbrain: If I could make one change to human DNA it would be to make downtrodden people instinctively band together and destroy the people oppressing them. The tolerance and even admiration (republicans) we have for cruel and oppressive power is one of our worst traits.I'll bite.So you want to force people to resist being forced?
WTFDYW: F*ck SALON.dnrtfa
pkellmey: So Red Lobster has to pay reparations?
what_now: Yup. I try to be conscious of this in the things I use the most of - coffee, clothing, food- but the reality is that even in this country most of the agricultural work is done by illegal immigrants. And while they aren't slaves, they make very little money and have no protection or recourse from abuse. Let's call them "serfs".You buy anything from Walmart? Slave made. You buy anything that was grown, picked, or processed in the South West? Serf made.Unless every single thing you consume is made by hand- or by someone who's workers you personally know- you're contributing to slavery. Eventually, you have to learn to live with that.
