If a 22 episode series like Firefly still has rabid fanboys over a decade after it's one pitiful season, I think it's safe to say Bronies will be around for a while.

/though I do wish they would shut up and stop being drama queens over every little thing. Not everything is THE WORST POSSIBLE THING!

"Bronies" will go away. Adult males so emotionally stunted that they invest time and energy into a show/media geared toward elementary school girls will always be around.

It's not like the good old days when all the emotionally stunted had were sports.

Hell we still have a massive nerdy following based around 3 shiat films from the 70s and 80s about some incestuous magic-jerk blowing up death stars.

I think it's more to the point that some people are realizing they can like whatever they want, unashamedly and unironically.

Hipsters were a shiatty first wave - they did what they wanted, but pretended it was "ironic" to deflect criticism. Bronies just accept it - they like the show. Deal with it.

Still not as bad as the all out Furries...

The show will be running for at least 5 more years.  Enjoy your Entertainment tab Saturday morning.

Well a sports riot is a misguided expression of years, usually decades of failure and loss amongst the fans of the hometown team, the other is an imaginary world on the Television. But you keep f*cking the pony.

What I don't understand is the discomfort people have with it. Why does it bother you? Why are you worried about masculinity or whatever else?

It sounds like a bunch of insecure people who are angry that those they deem as lessers are not as insecure as they themselves are.

I dunno. I'm sure many of us are just tired of discussions on Fark having an unrelated pony-bombing happen in damn near every thread.

You need to read more FARK threads, then.  Hell, it hasn't happened in this thread, and it's a farking brony thread.

That's bullshiat though. I know it happens, and I bet it's annoying, but it's nowhere NEAR every thread. That's just confirmation bias for you.

And threads regularly have memes and jokes of other sorts that are dumb and come up frequently; why don't those stand out to you?

With as many threads as I both submit and read, I never see the mass pony bombing in almost any of them.

Are there special UltraFark threads full of ponies I'm not seeing? Do I have to pay another five bucks a month?

You want me to be honest? It's creepy as f*ck. The show is for prepubescent girls and grown men, like yourselves, involve yourself with every detail. You go to conventions about it, wear clothing for it, and from the outside looking in, base your lives around it. It's the media version of an adult male playing with dolls in a room filled with grade school girls.

Liking a show is one thing. Even liking a show a lot is not so different a thing. But like all things, it is possible to get in too deep. Bronies are far from the first to experience this phenomenon, but as a group, they haven't shown themselves to be any better than their predecessors when it comes to not going off the deep end.

Ah, so you're basing your dislike on the fantasy world you've created in your head, not reality.

Got it.

You know what, you're right. The instances seem to have tapered off. The shaming must work.

But replying to almost every person in this thread with a staunch defense is kind of weird.

I'm defending bronies because of stupid stuff like this. Why do you think this is a valid point? Can't someone accept themselves, but also talk about WHY others don't? Can't they answer questions without "gosh you sure are doing a lot of defending..."?

Are they supposed to remain totally silent at all times to appease you?

The fringe elements of Bronydom are no weirder than the fringe elements of any other subculture.
The catch is that they just don't feel like hiding it, and therefore are much, much more visible.

Fandom: a place where boring uncreative people can feel interesting and useful

2014-03-11 09:38:46 AM
Not a brony here, but I would like to say its targeted demographic isn't prepubescent girls. Its targeted demographic is prepubescent girls and THEIR PARENTS. So of course it will have some male and adult followers, it indirectly targets them for having the same tastes parents might. Its like many of the cartoons of your childhood, which had jokes that went over the kids head to keep the parents entertained while spending time with their kids. The levels of fandom kinda weirds me out, but liking the show isn't. Its remarkably well animated, and Lauren Faust is good at what she does(though she isn't lead in MLP anymore I think, dunno, don't watch).

it's hard to disprove an idea that's essentially "lalala I can't hear you I know you are but what am I". We just think you're weird and creepy, for reasons that have already been explained by other people

Snark all you want at the Bronies:

They're nowhere near as dogmatic, whiny and entitled as Browncoats.

So you've never watched beyond one episode, but you know what it is? Okay.

Not that I expect you do, you're really, really, really caught up in gender identity.
