Huh.  That was an interesting DYK.

Yes. Did you also know that Coogan was involved in the lynching of two men who murdered one of his best friends in 1933?

One of many sources on the topic. This one doesn't have pics of the lynching (you don't want to see said pics...they gave me nightmares).

Yup, I knew that.

I also knew that he went to his first audition for Uncle Fester with a full head of hair, but the casting director didn't think he had the right look for the part.

He left, shaved his head, came back, and the same director hired him on the spot.

2014-03-11 07:01:00 AM
Yep. He was in my granddad's unit in WWII.

2014-03-11 07:04:26 AM
yes

Goodness, I had no idea! For you see, I have been on Mars, in a cave, with my eyes shut and my fingers in my ears.

Yeah, he was also the reason laws were passed protecting child actors.

2014-03-11 08:11:27 AM
Yes, I knew.

Charlie you can't be serious?

2014-03-11 08:33:16 AM
Yep. Not to be confused with Jackie Cooper, who was a Hal Roach kid that played Perry White in the 1978 Superman movie.

Leonard Nimoy?

All I can remember is Charlie Chaplain kissing that kid on the mouth in their movie together.

It was weird.

Even back before the interwebs I recall reading about Coogan as the Kid and the subsequent litigation against his parents.  It's one of the more well known stories from Hollywood.

Six months ago - for the first time, I'd never seen the story - I read the Cracked article about Led Zepplin stealing a bunch of their classic riffs from other players.  I mentioned it in one thread here, and some douchebag fired back with a nasty flame about me posting something that everyone already knew for decades.

It wasn't just him, it was *everyone*.  Everyone already knew about it for decades.

So subby...no barbs from me.   Good on ya for getting the green.

I might be wrong, but I believe that was the lynching that inspired Fritz Lang's film Fury, starring Spencer Tracy, a few years later, where a man wrongly accused of kidnapping is held in a local jail and lynched - the Lindbergh baby case was still pretty fresh.

Well the Millenial Generation probably doesn't. Because as far as they know the world was created when they were born.
