It's cute that anyone from Bush administration thinks they have any credibility on the matter.

Not really similar at all. At least Bush and Co gave the thin veneer of trying to work within the international community and UN resolutions. Just that when that didn't work, they cowboyed it solo. Oh sorry, I forgot Poland...

She was doing okay until she fell into the apology tour rhetoric.

Isn't she an expert on the Soviets? Who do we keep accusing of trying to hark back to the Soviet ways, and who was once an ardent Soviet himself?

Ya... I'd take her input on matters concerning Russia affairs over those of John Kerry.

I was actually kind of hoping she would be our first black President.

fta Most important, the United States must restore its standing in the international community,

You mean back to the standing we enjoyed before we began killing innocent people in Iraq? And Rice's co-conspirator, Cheney, is making the rounds talking up "military options" in Ukraine.

I'm glad these chicken hawks spend so much time reminding the world how awful they and their policies are.

What false pretenses?

Putin isn't lying about why he's going in, it's exactly to annex it back into the Soviet Union.

Didn't we have a nearly identical story, and even a nearly identical headline, just a few days ago?

Gyrfalcon: What false pretenses?

Putin isn't lying about why he's going in, it's exactly to annex it back into the Soviet Union.

The annexation is the action.  The pretense is he's...

1) Doing it to protect those Russians that Russia won't let back into Russia.

2) Doing it because the ousted President asked him to do it.

3) Doing it because Nazis.

Depending on who he's talking to, it's one of those.  Wait a few days, he'll come up with another half dozen reasons, I'm sure.

If Condoleezza Rice knows how to keep the Russians from invading neighboring countries, then why didn't she share that secret with the rest of us when they invaded Georgia?  You know, back in 2008 when she was still Secretary of State?

Yup. And that was their problem with Iraq: they literally had no concept of what a stateless enemy looked like, It had to be some nation state behind it, and Iraq was...convenient.

We covered this the other day. When people start questioning Condi Rice's citizenship, you can play the false equivalence game. Until then, STFU and DIAF.

I've never heard any Librul, anywhere, say that Condoleezza Rice doesn't know her place, and I've heard that repeatedly about the 44th POTUS since 2008.

So there's that.

On the one hand Russia is her specialty, so it might be nice for her to use her expertise in a practical situation.

On the other hand, fark that warmongering, lying, torture-endorsing, toadying piece of dog crap.  I'm sure there's others with equal knowledge whose opinions aren't discoloured by the blood of tens of thousands.

It was novel idea for sure. From an American perspective at least. Carlos the Jackal is one of examples that had been teaching Europe for years about what a nationless threat that hid behind many diplomatic covers looked like.

As for being convenient, I still don't understand the reasoning. I figure I'll find out round the same time I learn who Oswald was working with.

True. I read a bit of it, before realising it was an actual opinion piece by Condaleza Rice rather than an article, and stopped reading right there.

No way am I reading anything that biatch has to say. She's irrelevant, her opinions hold no value.

"Save us from Hillary" implies she is better than Hillary.

As a side note, there are several Republicans I would gladly vote for, but they are all NJ State legislators and don't seem to be interested in moving to a national stage.

That doesn't make much sense, when you consider Afghanistan was the country, rightfully, to become the face of Al-Quaida.

I am not aware of Bush and his fellow war criminals ever using Al-Quida as a pretext for invading Iraq. That wouldn't have worked with Saddam being sworn enemies of Al-Quida.

Reading Condi's letter to the Post reminded me of why I'm a Democrat in the first place.

Most important, the United States must restore its standing in the international community, which has been eroded by too many extended hands of friendship to our adversaries, sometimes at the expense of our friends. Continued inaction in Syria, which has strengthened Moscow's hand in the Middle East, and signs that we are desperate for a nuclear agreement with Iran cannot be separated from Putin's recent actions. Radically signal that we no longer have the will or intention to sustain global order, as does talk of whether the security situation warrants it or not. We must not fail, as we did in Iraq, to leave behind a residual presence. Anything less than the American military requirement for 10,000 troops will say that we are not serious about helping to stabilize that country.

I do love hearing how cutting our Defense budget is a sign of weakness even though it will still be the largest military in the world.

When the Bush admin couldn't win a war with Iraq a country with no air force and inspectors seeing everything, they have zero credibility.

Iraq giving non-existant "weapons of mass distruction" to Al-qaeda was the first excuse for the war. After that lie was exposed the "liberating th Iraqi people" became the justification.
