I miss the days when Fark didn't hijack images, rename them and rehost them. It was nice to be able to look at the image source and maybe get a clue from the file name.

I used to work for EB Games back in ancient history, and the manager once told me that another manager in a nearby  district did the same thing with their store deposit during the holidays. I think it was to the tune of nearly 40k.

Admitting to a crime that people know you did isn't what farks you up, it is doing the crime in the first place.

As he said, he was a walking dead man, someone was going to notice sooner or later.

This helps with the plea bargain, establishes the whole gambling addiction defense.

This case sounds more like a gambling addiction.  Not to justify it, he still did it and deserves to get fired, prosecuted, and forced to pay restitution.

when we weren't getting a bonus

Surprised this doesn't happen more often. Some people snap, and this guy's problem was gambling.

2014-03-10 09:15:12 PM
I like how he transitions from "when we weren't getting a bonus" to gambling all of it away. I'm sure in his mind, his employer is partly to blame because of the bonus situation. Lucky for him, the amount is small enough that he might be able to pay it back in his lifetime.

Yep. Admitting it was smart in this case, even if that wasn't the intent. It also shows remorse. He'll spend less time in jail than if he tried to hide it and denied it.

I don't know.  They don't seem to have noticed that the employees are putting fries on the sandwiches.

I think he planned the whole thing. He needed the bonus money to cover some financial disaster he had. When that wasn't going to come through, he decides to take the deposits and win the money he needs, then quickly replace the deposits from the winnings. When he lost he activates his final option, "I'm sick and I need help". If it works then he gets a fresh start and only has a minimal amount of fallout from it. If it doesn't work he's no worse off than he'd be anyways since he really had to have that money for the original problem.

Shouldn't the casino have to pay it back to the company? If he stole a physical item and pawned it, the pawn shop would have to give it back and take the loss.

Kind of funny how in 1995, record stores were still a BIG DEAL. Nowadays probably a majority of people couldn't tell you where the nearest record store is in their area. I miss Tower Records and HMV.

Record stores are a big deal now that vinyl is a hit again. So I am sure that the majority actually can tell you, given than any midsize+ town has a record store or more.

And to think, some boss somewhere didn't think this model employee should get a bonus.

The employee's entire estate should be sold at auction to pay back the money, and THEN he should do life. There is no way this pos can be good for society.

I'm inclined to agree with the first part, but life in prison for $30k theft? Hell no. Give him a year - he'll learn his lesson. Pretty damn expensive to imprison someone for life.

I was a little surprised by the guys age. 30 and he's in charge or 4 restaurants?

It would cost the state the equivalent of what he stole to house him in prison each year. I think a good Singapore style caning and his criminal record keeping him from ever working in a position of trust would be sufficient.

It's called getting hired with a business degree instead of working his way up from dishwasher, or it's about who you know.

Ex bil has been running restaurants since his 20's.  His dad owns restaurants.  Sis learned the hard way to not marry the flirting manager, because he will always flirt with all the hot waitresses.

Yeah...employee's shouldn't have to earn a 'bonus', it should just be handed to them regardless of their work.

Same thing with me at Babbage's.  I closed the store with a visiting assistant manager on Friday and Saturday.  Came in on Monday evening to pick up a game and my regular manager asked me if the guy had seemed off or anything, and I ask why.  Turns out the weekends' deposits never made it to the bank - something like 5K - and the guy absconded with them to somewhere in the Carribean.  I guess the plan was to live it up before killing himself, but when the cops busted down the door he dove out the hotel window and broke both his legs.
It's like, did he not realize people were going to notice within hours of the bank opening on Monday morning?
