Man, I must not get the Honest Trailers bit.

She IS  anti-social, she DOES get alot of the show being saved and that's all pqart of the plot on purpose. Like, have they even read the series?

Petta was not drowing, and they all walked into the monkees.

Of course there are spaceships in the same movie. It's a distopian future. Only the gubernmint has access to the funds/materials needed for it to be used consistently and they certainly wouldn;t waste it going into repressed parts of the countries.

Ok, I lol'd at Finnick making Katniss jealous.

So it wasn;t even ironically correct. What's the bit here? My snark-o-meter seems to be working fine today.

I do get that.

I am trying to understand what the angle of humor is here. I mean, maybe it's because I read the series all their jokes about the main character fall flat? Everything they base their jokes off of suggests they don;t understand the material. Maybe that's the answer to why I don;t find it funny. It's not witty since it;s totally wrong and it doesn;t seem to be being ironic about being wrong.

GOOD GOD I AM OVERTHINKING THIS shiat.

Can I go home now please?

Honest Trailers is a great premise.  But, it looks like whoever makes them got bored with honesty.

Some people like to involve themselves with the lives of those around them. I don't recall him saying they were his favorite books, just that he read them and that the ending is pretty good. I've read the HP series simply because it's nice to have things to discuss with people... turns out that if you're familiar with something that a lot of other people are familiar with, you can have decent conversation. Being sociable isn't a bad thing. You should try it. It's a heck of an alternative to just crying about someone else's taste. It's like you take pride in your willful ignorance. Both Lando and Lincoln would be ashamed of you.

Wow, now that was pretentious. It's almost like they didn't understand the source material at all, didn't bother to read the books in advance, and have no idea whatsoever about the character's inner monologue. But still wanted to feel superior to a franchise that's raking in the million$ they never will

No, the really crappy Battle Royale movie inspired me to read the book and then go watch the movies.

My favorite honest trailer is still the Man of Steel one, as well as the Pacific Rim one. Both were hilarious even though I love those movies to death.

Yes, it seems to be a parody trailer for the movie, not the book.

/I don't think 'pretentious' means what you think it means
//superiority isn't about how much money you have

And thereby making themselves look pretty stupid and ignorant to the millions of people who know more about the subject than they do

Who said they don't understand the movies? Because they are mocking it? (did you see what I did there?)  I actually think it's hard to satirize something without knowing the material, and for all we know they love the movie, but there is some humor in the video. It isn't like Collins came up with an original idea - it doesn't stop me from enjoying the series on paper and film, but pointing it out doesn't have to ruin it. Unless your enjoyment is so tenuously tied to what others say, in which case you never really liked Hunger Games.

This isn't Citizen Kane.  If you think "understanding" this movie is a bar set high enough that anyone could possibly miss it, well...

The subject is a movie. Whether a character's "inner monologue" in the book would justify an action doesn't change whether it is justified in the movie. Example: if the question "why don't they just fly into Mordor on eagles" cannot be answered with reference to the movies then it is a fair point against the movies regardless of whether the books exhaustively answer it or not.

It goes without saying that when they make fun of Hunger Games, there will be defensive fans who are mad that they're stupidheads who totally don't get it. And I'm not claiming they got anything right. I'm just saying if you complain, maybe your complaint shouldn't be entirely about a book that the video isn't about.

It's pretty obvious that they aren't "Honest Trailers" but rather "Cynical Trailers", except that to explicitly call them cynical would be to undermine the comedic potential.

Ehh, sometimes it's clear they like the movie. Pacific Rim's one is mostly about how the movie is really stupid yet equally awesome.

Yeah, every now and then they geek out (eg: Pacific Rim, The Dark Knight), but most of the time they're aiming to score points with cynics.

Harry Potter is standard dad reading duty. Twilight is the dad reading equivalent of nuclear technician on K-19.

You should always try and watch and read a portion of what your kids are reading/watching. Just so you know what crap they are shoveling into their brains.

That being said, I'll give any book series a shot.

Hunger Games book 1 was infinetly better then Twilight book 1. Twilight book 1 was like flashing back to the days where I was 15 thumbing through my mothers romance books for the naughty parts. Except there were no naughty parts. Oh and the big fight scene to end the whole book? Yeah it happened when she was unconscious and was relayed to her  by someone else. That's just dumb.

No farking way. Harry Potter was clunky but the universe was enjoyable. Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent...nooope. I guess I'd make a terrible father for a daughter. My daughter would grow up on Star Wars and old Moon Knight comics.

Because my brain would melt?

I tried watching The Hunger Games. I had to turn it off about a third through for fear that my sense of logic would be permanently scarred.
