Oh, noes! Something..something..ignorance..something! Horror!

What the hell is this? It's a worm. It's about as frightening as a post-it note reminding you to buy milk.

For some tapeworms, 9 feet can be short. They can get to 30 feet in some cases.

Fishermen are going to be posed when they buy a bucket of worms from a local kid and find out there's only one.

It might be just a worm, but its in *Australia*.

It would find a way to kill you.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I live I'm a building rife with cracks inside and outside. I can hear creaks and groans as the foundation shifts. I live in a place known for sinkholes, and sinkhole season has just begun.

I ain't scared of no worm.

Odd.  My first thought was the kid's book, "How to Eat Fried Worms"

In a college zoology course we covered parasites, and passed around a jar containing an enormous tapeworm in formaldehyde. The instructor cautioned us to be very careful to not touch our eyes, lips or noses - anywhere on the face really - until after we had thoroughly washed our hands, because although it had been a preserved specimen for 25+ years they could not guarantee that any eggs or shed segments that *might* be on the outside of the jar would not be viable still.

This made an impression on us. A horrible, creepy-crawly impression.

I've known about these forever. Saw 'em on PBS as a kid and several times since. They're worms and they're rare and harmless they don't bother me.

Now land leeches....

Bad enough having to worry when I go to the river, but in some countries they'll chase you down on land. No thanks.

Don't know why an earthworm needs any feet, much less where it will get shoes for them.

I can believe this. I've pulled up 16 inch long monsters in my yard when they come up at night, and I'm not even in Australia, the land of OMG.
