Are you sure those are not Americans pretending to be Canadians when they travel?

Probably quebecers.

Not even close, subs.  Let's face it - our state department doesn't have to tell us to pretend to be another nationality when we travel abroad.

real_headhoncho: Are you sure those are not Americans pretending to be Canadians when they travel?

I wouldn't be surprised.  I also wouldn't be surprised if they were residents of Ontario or Quebec, which are far more tightly tied to the US, in many ways.  If an Albertan acted like that, his compatriots would shut him up and board check him later.

Meh... get anyone drunk enough and they will act like an arsehole.

The drunkenness and cultural insensitivity I can deal with, but openly purchasing our cheese in bulk?

I'm afraid this means war.

/there's a reason "BC" is an adjective in Alberta

They don't do that because of how Americans behave, they do it because Americans are targeted more often for kidnapping or attacks in unfriendly countries.  If anything, it's a response to US public policy, not how our tourists act while on vacation.

I noticed Brisitish people asking me if I was Canadian the few times I was over there.  I have no idea why but I assume Canadians probably get offended if you ask if they are Americans, and the opposite isnt true, so they play it safe and ask everyone if they are Canadian.

/Germans were the worst group we came across.

2014-03-09 08:14:48 PM
They are angry.

Because they have no self identity. Canadians do not get to just 'be Canadian'. Everything they are is constantly compared to Americans.

So their identity becomes that of "well.... we aren't Americans.." followed by whatever half-baked theory they have about what makes them better than and separate from the Americans.

Basically, it boils down to "Marsha, Marsha Marsha!"

It sounds like all of the residents from Sunnyvale Trailer Park have been vacationing around the world.

As a Canadian currently on vacation in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, I'd have to say the worst I've come across so far is Aussies and large groups of elderly Chinese. But I've hardly met any other Canadians here, though I'm sure there are some bad apples. I'm tipping everyone.

I'm a Canadian, and I tried to go on vacation to France once.  The rural French would just ask us "Where are you from?" and then, after being told "Canada", would let out a relieved "Oh thank GOD".

The Parisians, on the other hand, simply did not believe us.  Apparently so many Americans had come to Paris pretending to be Canadian, that they now just assume all english-speaking people with a North-American accent were from USA.

I also learned that French people like to "smoke out" tourists.  On 3 separate occasions we tried to eat at a restaurant, only to have every single Frenchie in the entire seating area light up a cig at once.

Oh, and people tried to pickpocket us 5 different times in the one week we spent in Paris.

fark France.

You don't even understand the half of the hatred towards America that exists in Canada.

The day after the September 11th attacks, everywhere people were saying like "fark those Americans" and "they deserved to die" and "that's what they get for being American".  Everyone, whether they were white rich people or poor minorities, truly jumped for joy after 9/11.  They just stopped short of burning flags in the streets.

When I was in Amsterdam I made sure to talk a lot so people could hear my American accent and know I wasn't English.  They farking hate the English there, way more than I've ever seen hate for Americans anywhere else.

Funny thing, an old timer in a pub in Liverpool bought me a beer when he heard me say that I was a Canadian. He credited the Canadians with having saved Liverpool from complete destruction during WW2.
I don't find any one group of people any more obnoxious than any others. So, maybe it is the Canadians who are the worst. But, if so, fick it, what odds?

You're correct in that... for some unexplained reason, bag milk isn't sold in western Canada. I'm thinking it has to do with the longer transport distances as bags leak more easily than cartons/jugs being bounced around in the truck to the store.

Hockey is mostly a white-people sport.  But the anti-American hatred came from  everyone.  Even the few teachers that I highly respected and admired at the time, joined in on the hate.  It was astonishing.  It hit especially hard because I'm half Canadian, half American.

Look, I know it isn't the attitude of  allof Canada.  I didn't take a nation-wide poll.  I live in Toronto, hardly representative of the rest of the country.  But the quotes I posted are real, they were said by actual peers and teachers of mine, on September 12.

Canadians -- do you guys always use the term "leafs" instead of "leaves" when referring to multiples of your country's symbol? Because I really want to imagine a group of people walking around covered in Toronto hockey players.
