"Reason #4536 why I'm getting out of this suckass state as soon as humanly possible. I hate this farking place, and I was BORN here. 30 years, and no love lost between me and Assachusetts."

Riiiight. On the odd chance you're waiting for providence before leaving, if it hasn't happened in thirty years, I don't think it's going to any time soon.

Also, there's ludicrous behavior everywhere. You can't knock Boston, or Massachussetts for that. I've always thought Boston was a beautiful city, but of course, I don't live there either.

I dunno. You seem awfully angst-ridden. You seem to hate where you live, and yet you're thirty years old and haven't left yet. Sounds to me like you married the wrong person.

There are quite a few different angles here in today's FARK riot thread.

1) People from Boston who are ashamed and want to move.
2) People from Boston who insist the rioting wasn't as bad as the media suggests (imagine that).
3) People from other states suggesting that THIS is the reason they don't live in the North (and not becuase they don't have what it takes to make it up here).
4) People from other states that think their students can riot better than our students.

Silly.

Wow, with this, and "Boston Rob" returning to Survivor, I think my trusty Sox cap will stay on the hat rack for a few weeks.

In Kenmore Square, near Boston University, college-aged fans thronged the streets around garbage fires. A local television station reported that one of its vans was vandalized, and the crew had to be escorted from the area by police.

Across town near Northeastern University, fans flipped about a half dozen cars. Several people were injured, one fatally and another critically, when the SUV backed into a crowd of revelers, then sped off, interim Police Commissioner James Hussey said today. One of those injured was a police officer, authorities said.

Umm, it was all college students, and most I bet from either out of state or in their first year.

"Real People" do not live or hand our in Kennmore square, only college kids and unemplaoyed actors and artists.

Oi. Does anyone remember the name of the social psychologist who did a study of phenomena like this?

He came up with BIRGing (basking in reflected glory) and CORFing (cutting off reflected failure). I think these terms everytime I talk sports with a true fan these days :)

You know all you farkers that still think news about beer is cool share in the blame. I never understood how the beer is cool culture survives high school/early college. You'd think that after the allure of being able to acquire alcohol illegally wore off after the age of 21 that some of the "beer is cool" mentality would disappear.

I'd say that almost all sports game riots are a direct result of alcohol. Hard to imagine sober people doing these things.

Riot shotguns loaded with rock salt.

End of problem.

Buncha assholes need some seasoning.

Nice one.

Has anyone here actually been shot with rock salt? Just curious.

What sporting event were the people celebrating in LA back in 1992?

2004-02-02 12:33:48 PM
That's funny....When Tampa won the Super Bowl last year people were honking their horns, shouting in the streets, and lighting off fireworks. I don't remember any accounts of asshat vandalism or riots. Just shows those damn Yankees for what they are....classless hooligans!

I lived in all of those places...

I can assure you that it was 99% drunk, retarded college students.

I can also assure you that many, many of them come from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They all come to Boston to go to school.

I don't know why they even celebrate. I guess because it's their only opportunity. Their football teams will never win anything.

2004-02-02 12:37:44 PM
The guy who killed the kid was not a college student and he had a foot long driving record of suspended license, failure to stop, etc. The kid who was killed was a NU student and son of one of the big wigs in the State Police. Just because a few schools in Boston are full of asshats ::clears throat, BU:: doesn't mean that every student in Boston is an idiot. BC didn't do any rioting last night and after the Sox won vs. Oakland we just gathered in the Mods chanting Yankees Suck and went back to drinking our Busch Lights.

No, sadly I find that people from the South Shore and from the immediate surrounding towns of Boston have a THICK accent. That probably isnt exaggerated, plus the fact that the guy sounds illiterate anyway.

2004-02-02 12:40:10 PM
Being from Boston myself, I'm curious to know if there would have been more or less rioting if the Pats had lost?

And to all you Boston haters out there, suck a nut. Overall, this place is pretty cool even if the accent is wikhed freakin' ugly.

2004-02-02 12:40:35 PM
Some beanheads in Boston, it's plain,
Won a ball game and went quite insane.
They behaved really shiatty---
Trashed about half the city---
And conclusively proved they've no brains.

On the same night a slut name of Janet
Showed her tit to about half the planet,
If she weren't such a wussy---
She'd have showed us her pussy---
Or her ass, and we'd tell her to "Can it!"

is the south going through an indentity crisis in that they have to refer to shiat that happened 150 years ago.

I simply don't get it, whats the point of all of this ?? Why would "fans" go out and gloat that "their" team one.. They didn't do anything but sit on their fat asses and cheer for them... Its entertainment, but thats it.. thats a sad existence if you ask me, if thats what you live for.

i don't even live in boston and i know what's going on here. what you have are a bunch of pencil dick college students whose parents paid for their daycare so they can live in the city for four years and get the 'urban experience' that get drunk and trash the place cause they'll be living in the burbs (or whatever bumhick town) come end semester.

Which episode was that, out of curiousity ??

But yeah, the fans sometimes take it a little bit too far. IF I had money on the game, that makes it exciting for me ( I didn't) but how could someone put themselves so into watching grown men make millions, I'm too busy trying to make mine.

1. Alcohol is heavily involved in celebrating big time sports
2. The IQ of the average American Joe is what... 70?

Given those two issues, combined with the SOMETIMES 'dumb as dirt' mentality of sports fanatics in general (NOT ALL/NOT EVEN THE MAJORITY), I'm not surprised at all by this - disgusted, but not surprised.

2004-02-02 01:00:44 PM
And they say English soccer fans are bad. Can't we celebrate without causing distruction and death? It's always fun until someone gets hurt. Asshats.

2004-02-02 01:01:38 PM
Makes me nostalgic for the days when riots were quickly dealt with. Just give 'em a whiff of grapeshot, line up your cavalry, and charge in for a quick sabreing of the survivors. Problem solved in under 10 minutes, cleanup takes a few guys with shovels, buckets and firehoses.

I can't remember the episode, but I believe it was during one of his stand-up monologues he used to do right at the beginning of an episode. The little 30-second or one-minute bits that I believe they eventually stopped doing.

It's funny... one Masshole drives over a couple people after teh Superbowl and it makes news. What about any other day? Have you driven in Boston? It's teh pedestrian's fault for not getting out of the way.

Just shows those damn Yankees for what they are....classless hooligans!

Nobody rioted when Green Bay won the Superbowl...

2004-02-02 01:14:05 PM
plagiarizer,

No, I'm not dismissing it as acceptable by any means. It sounds to me like a series fairly out-of-control college students. The whole thing is magnified by some asshat who decides to drive home after 10 jack'n'cokes. The worst part is, this is a Boston resident (I believe)... take a cab! Or walk! I thought one of the good points about living in the city is never having to drive drunk (a necessary evil in the suburbs).

But my main point is that these "riots" did not involve true Boston residents... Merely college students, most of which were probably from out-of-state. Boston gets a bad rep as a town that gets out of control... people forget that over half of Boston's residents are college students.

2004-02-02 01:14:22 PM
cheer up bostonians, it's not like you can't still suck at baseball.

if i lived in boston, i'd be much too busy killing myself to riot.
